Could Johnny Depp save ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ franchise?
Johnny Depp’s time in Pirates of the Caribbean has been nothing short of phenomenal. From day one, he totally carried the franchise in the role of Captain Jack Sparrow, a dirty pirate who constantly gets caught up in shenanigans. The first movie in the franchise was released in 2003 followed by four more in 2006, 2007, 2011, and 2017.
Throughout the course of the franchise, we’ve also seen Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom, Zoe Saldana, and other major actors in the cast lineup. The next movie is projected to be released in 2023 with Margot Robbie in the leading role. If Johnny Depp’s invited back, could it save the franchise?
Fan trailer
A fan trailer uploaded to YouTube has pushed Pirates of the Caribbean fans in the direction of wanting Johnny Depp back more than ever. We know for a fact Margot Robbie is supposed to be the leading star of the movie, and as great as she is, it would still be incredible to have Depp back for the sixth film.
According to the fan trailer, which now has 2.5 million views on YouTube, Johnny Depp’s Captain Sparrow is going to be part of the magic. The comment section really says it all.
One user wrote, “I’ll never watch another pirate movie without Johnny Depp.” Another user wrote, “Not having Jack Sparrow here is like not having Harry Potter in Harry Potter, doesn’t make sense.” That comparison is absolutely valid! Depo made the movies what they are today and he should be included.
Why Johnny Depp’s involvement is in question
The reason we are unsure if Johnny Depp will be included in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean movie is that he’s been dealing with the public media scandal regarding his ex-wife, Amber Heard. Their messy divorce played out in front of the entire world and got even worse when she accused him of abuse.
Audio recordings of her describing the ways she’s abused Depp were released yet for some reason, he’s continued to be punished for their toxic marriage while she hasn’t. Fans petitioned for her to be cut from Aquaman 2, but producers of the movie didn’t listen and have chosen to keep her in the film.
Depp sued The Washington Post for defamation after they published a 2018 article from Heard’s perspective about the abuse she allegedly endured by him. Unfortunately, he didn’t win the lawsuit though many of his fans believe he should have. Their divorce proceedings will continue into 2022 since things were delayed back in February of 2021. Hopefully by then, there will be more closure.
Why Margot Robbie was chosen
There’s a reason Pirates of the Caribbean movie makers have landed on Margot Robbie as a solid leading lady for the newest movie. It will be great to have her starring in the film alongside Johnny Depp, but if it doesn’t work out for him to be part of the cast, Robbie will still do an incredible job.
Some of the major movies she’s starred in over the years include Suicide Squad as the reckless & ruthless Harley Quinn, Bombshell, The Legend of Tarzan, Once Upon a Time in . . . Hollywood, and The Wolf of Wall Street. She’s worked with big names including Jared Leto, Will Smith, Charlize Theron, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Brad Pitt. Her career has been on the up & up since the very beginning.
She shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon with the newest Pirates of the Caribbean movie as her latest project. We’re keeping our fingers crossed she’s able to join forces with Depp for the film since we all know that would make it a thousand times better.
