Gwenyth Paltrow opens up about her ex-husband: Get all the tea
When Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, split up, it was a shock to many. But now, Paltrow is spilling the tea on how she and Martin might never have been the right match to begin with. Here’s everything we know about Paltrow’s thoughts on her ex.
Gwyneth tells all
On the Anna Faris Is Unqualified podcast, Gwyneth Paltrow opened up about her ex-husband Chris Martin, with whom she shares two children: 16-year-old Apple, and 14-year-old Moses. “I never wanted to get divorced,” she admitted. “I never wanted to not be married to the father of my kids, theoretically. But I have learned more about myself through that process than I could have imagined.”
Has Gwyneth spoken about this before?
In an essay she wrote for Vogue UK published in August 2020, Gwyneth Paltrow spoke on the split, which had been finalized in 2016. She started out by describing her thirty-eighth birthday, which she and Martin had celebrated in Tuscany.
“I don’t recall when it happened, exactly,” she wrote. “I don’t remember which day of the weekend it was or the time of day. But I knew – despite long walks and longer lie-ins, big glasses of Barolo and hands held – my marriage was over.”
Paltrow went on to discuss the difficulties of coming to this realization: “We did not want to fail. We didn’t want to let anyone down. We desperately didn’t want to hurt our children. We didn’t want to lose our family. The questions, both philosophical and tactical, seemed unfathomable: who sleeps where, how does bath time work, what do we say to the kids?”
But why the split? Paltrow explained it simply in her essay. “We were close, though we had never fully settled into being a couple,” she wrote. “We just didn’t quite fit together. There was always a bit of unease and unrest.”
Did Gwyneth remarry?
On the Anna Faris Is Unqualified podcast, Gwyneth Paltrow spoke very highly of her new husband, writer and producer Brad Falchuk, with whom she tied the knot in 2018. “I was then able to find the most amazing man and build something that I’ve never had before with Brad, my husband.”
And as for Chris Martin, he has found his own happiness away from Paltrow. He has been dating Dakota Johnson since 2018. And what’s more, Johnson & Paltrow appear to actually be friends.
In 2019, YouTube fashion & beauty director Derek Blasberg Instagrammed a pic with Paltrow & Johnson at an LA party. He cheekily captioned the photo “Conspicuously throupling.”
Who is Gwyneth’s new hubby?
Brad Falchuk was born in Massachusetts to Nancy Falchuk, the president of the Hadassah Women’s Zionist Organization of America from 2007-2011. He struggled in school because he suffered from undiagnosed dyslexia. But in 1993, he triumphantly graduated from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, and went on to get his masters degree from the AFI Conservatory.
In 2001, Falchuk’s career was jump-started when he was hired as a writer for Mutant X, and then Earth: Final Conflict, and, right after, Veritas: The Quest. In 2003, he met Ryan Murphy while working on Murphy’s Nip/Tuck, and the two formed a close bond.
The two instantly started working on pitches for new TV shows. They teamed up with screenwriter Ian Brennan to pitch a show to Fox Broadcasting Company that would become the wildly popular Glee.
In addition to Glee, Falchuk is an executive producer on American Crime Story and co-creator of Scream Queens, starring Emma Roberts, Lea Michele, Abigail Breslin, Keke Palmer, and Jamie Lee Curtis.
