Big Cat Rescue’s Carole Baskin and her best ‘Tiger King’ quotes
If you’re paying attention at all, you’d know that the docuseries Tiger King is all the rage right now.
It’s been dominating the Netflix top ten charts for weeks and people are going bananas at how outrageously crazy and convoluted this documentary is. One host from the hit YouTube show Good Mythical Morning compares it to an onion and the description is pretty apt.
“They go a level deeper and you’re like ‘No!. . . no, no, no, no, no. That can’t be true,’” said Rhett in mock disbelief on their podcast Ear Biscuits.
“It’s like an onion,” added Link. “ They keep peeling back layers and I’m like, ‘What?!’”
The docuseries Tiger King will indeed shock you to your core as the secret twists and turns of the narrative keep you guessing. Although the show revolves around Joe Exotic, self-proclaimed “Tiger King” of big cat zookeepers, there is another person who is also quite a character on the show.
Her name: Carole Baskin.
Carole Baskin is the founder and CEO of the animal sanctuary Big Cat Rescue. Carole is a passionate animal rights activist who has focused her efforts on keeping big cats like tigers out of for-profit zoo operations. She seeks to put the balance back into the animal kingdom since as of right now, there are more big cats in captivity than there are in the wild.
Her morality message concerning animals is strong, but some have reservations about her morals concerning humanity. Joe Exotic is famous for accusing Carole Baskin of killing one of her late-husbands years ago. Police never found any evidence, but the circumstances of his sudden disappearance right before he divorced her and would effectively seize many of Big Cat Rescue’s assets, was certainly suspicious.
As such, the name Carole Baskin is definitely polarizing, but that’s what makes her so absolutely quotable! Here are the leading lady of Big Cat Rescue’s best quotes from Tiger King.
Carole Baskin, concerning cats
“You can see how they go from being so sweet to tearing your face off, just like that, and it’s amazing to have that range.”
“We’ve had whistleblowers come up to us and say they’ve heard a gunshot in the middle of the night and the next day there’s no cat. But they don’t know where the cat went. And I think these people are smart enough to only use their very closest circle of people that they’ve got good dirt on that they would use to dispose of a body, because it takes a few people to lift a big cat. . . unless you part it out right there.”
“And those cubs are only cute and manageable until they’re about twelve weeks old. By the time they’re about thirteen weeks old the people who are using them for these photo booths find that it costs $10,000 a year to take care of them, so they give them away. They sell them.”
“We’re going to have to change the laws to solve this problem.”
Carole Baskin, concerning people
“Hey all you cool cats and kittens! . . It’s Carole from Big Cat Rescue.”
“The minute you meet one of these people who has an exotic cat, first thing they do is they whip out those pictures. Look at me. I’m holding this cub. Look at me, I’m petting this tiger. Look at me, I’ve got this cat on a leash. It’s all about ‘look at me.’ They want to use those cats to elevate their status.”
“There is a science to getting rich, and it is an exact science. The ownership of money and property comes from doing things in a certain way. Those who do things in a certain way, whether on purpose or accidentally, get rich.”
“My email says, ‘Judge me by the enemies I have made.’ So I really appreciate the fact that none of these people like me.”
“I posted online 28 different places that are all part of this whole, what I call ‘the bad guy network,’ of people that are breeding cubs and selling cubs.”
Carole Baskin, concerning husbands
“What is my sick need that I’m trying to fill with this venomous man? I’ve asked forever but I still don’t know. He’s all I’ve never known and he’s the only man I’ve ever loved. I hope Jamie never finds herself in such a sick and perverted relationship.”
“Don lost his pilot’s license the day after he got it, so he never flew legitimately again. Every flight he ever did after that, and there were a lot of them, he was flying illegally. So no, he wasn’t reporting. . . If he had any kind of an accident out over the Gulf we never would have found anything.”
“I can’t believe I’ve spent a year with this cool cat. Can’t wait to spend the rest of his life with him.”
That last one isn’t even a quote from Tiger King per se, but we just couldn’t resist. You find anything a little bit off about that statement? I mean, talk about a Freudian slip if there ever was one. And that’s about her current husband! Hey man, just sayin’. Officially, there is no evidence against her.
