Who does Lizzo want to replace Kevin Costner in ‘The Bodyguard’?
Can we name a more iconic movie performance than Whitney Houston belting “I Will Always Love You” in the seminal 1992 film The Bodyguard. Starring Houston & Kevin Costner, the romantic thriller follows Secret Service agent turned bodyguard (Costner) protecting a famous actress (Houston) from a stalker. While the film is a bit cheesy, it remains fairly fondly remembered.
Though, honestly, we’ll be real with you, The Bodyguard is less known for Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston’s acting performance and more known for the song. Because, dang, the late singer had some power in that performance, didn’t she? Even though the song (and the soundtrack) is the shining light of the movie, the film itself could probably do with a reboot.
Lucky for us, it looks like we’re getting a reboot of The Bodyguard. While no casting has been announced yet, a certain singer has a “Good as Hell” idea as for who should step into Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner’s shoes for the remake of the film. Here’s everything we know about the reboot.
The Bodyguard reboot
As exclusively reported by Variety, Warner Bros is officially remaking The Bodyguard. To be fair, they have a truly great writer lined-up to pen the script of the remake. Tony-nominated playwright Matthew López has been hired to write the script for the Kevin Costner & Whitney Houston movie. López was nominated for his 2019 play The Inheritance.
Lawrence Kasdan of Kasdan Pictures, and Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback will produce the new film. Kasdan, who many fans know from his work on Star Wars, also wrote the script for the original 1992 movie. Lin, himself, has been trying to get a remake of The Bodyguard made since 2011. Needless to say, it looks like it’s about time to see what a remake looks like.
As for who will play the roles that Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner brought to life in 1992? Well, people have thrown out different pairings of names for years: Tessa Thomspon & Chris Hemworth, Channing Tatum & Cardi B, Beyonce & Joe Manganiello, and more. But one singer has thrown her name into the ring, which has fans hoping this casting will win out.
What y’all think? 😏

Lizzo & Chris Evans ride again
For the past few months on social media, Lizzo & Chris Evans have been playfully flirting with each other. It started after the singer revealed she drunkenly slid into the actor’s DMs. Since then, they’ve been joking and had a fake pregnancy announcement that left the whole internet deeply amused. Now, however, Lizzo would very much like them to work together.
Someone online said that the “Rumors” singer & the Captain America actor should play Houston & Costner’s roles in the upcoming remake. Lizzo seems to have given her blessing in the above TikTok video. Honestly? We wouldn’t hate to see the two step into the world of The Bodyguard. Warner Bros will already have people interested in seeing them star opposite each other.
We probably won’t hear about casting news for a while. Who knows what we can expect from the reimagining of the classic property? But, hey, Lizzo & Chris Evans are not not in the running. So that’s something at least, you know? We can pretend that we’ll see the movie with the two in the leads. It could even, possibly happen. We’re definitely optimists in that sense.
