After sexual assault allegations against Democratic New York Governor Andrew Cuomo led to a full investigation, Attorney General Letitia James announced to the world on Tuesday that he was finally found guilty of sexually harassing multiple women. Sexual assault accusations
On Tuesday, New York Attorney General Letitia James confirmed that Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo was indeed found guilty of sexually harassing multiple women, and now many folks are wondering what this could mean for his career, how other politicians will respond, and what his wife and family are thinking. The New York governor was exposed through a very lengthy report that was released as of recently.
Letitia James announced that the Attorney general’s office found that he was guilty of harassment of current and former state employees and numerous women outside of the state government also. James reported on Tuesday that the investigation revealed that the politician was guilty of “unwelcome and nonconsensual touching” and made comments that had “suggestive” sexual innuendo.
This all led to the New York Governor creating a “hostile work environment for women”. Letitia James also emphasized that his actions did indeed violate numerous federal and state laws. So what does the wife of Andrew Cuomo think of all of this, and how have politicians been reacting? Well, since this news, many other Democrats have been pressuring Andrew Cuomo to step down and resign, but who knows what will happen?
Reactions
In a speech made on Tuesday, Andrew Cuomo has since denied such allegations, announcing: “I want you to know directly from me that I never touched anyone inappropriately or made inappropriate sexual advances”. While he denied the accusations, he did release a statement back in February saying that some of his comments in the workplace “may have been insensitive or too personal” for folks.
In his statement, he said that he was “truly sorry” to anyone who may have “misinterpreted (any of his comments) as an unwanted flirtation”. After being found guilty of such accusations, Democrats have been pressuring the New York Governor to resign, including the state’s two US senators as well as the White House press secretary Jen Psaki, who called the accusations made against Andrew Cuomo “abhorrent”.
While Andrew Cuomo has yet to come clean on whether or not he sexually harassed the women who have stepped forward, his wife and family have still remained silent on these matters. It seems that the politician’s behavior also was extended to other employees of the state as well that worked with him, which even included a State Trooper and other members of the public according to the released report.
The released report included details of accusations made by eleven women who have claimed Andrew Cuomo harassed them, and the investigators have found all eleven of those reports to have proper evidence through speaking to 179 people and reviewing 74,000 pieces of evidence. Letitia James also announced: “I believe women. And I believe these eleven women”.
“We also conclude that the Executive Chamber’s culture — one filled with fear and intimidation, while at the same time normalizing the Governor’s frequent flirtations and gender-based comments — contributed to the conditions that allowed the sexual harassment to occur and persist”, reported investigators Joon Kim and Anne Clark.
“That culture also influenced the improper and inadequate ways in which the Executive Chamber has responded to allegations of harassment”, the report added. Andrew Cuomo himself had been questioned and interviewed for the investigation for over eleven hours just last month.
