Pop singer Adele has always had a rocky relationship with her father. Unfortunately, he recently passed away. Learn all about their relationship here.

RIP Adele’s father: Was the rift with the singer resolved before his death?

On Tuesday, it was reported that Mark Evans, the father of pop singer Adele, had passed away after a long battle with bowel cancer. While we’re sure this may be devastating news for the family & loved ones of Mark Evans, it turns out that Adele was not immensely close with her dad to begin with. So just what was their relationship like? Let’s take a look here.

Adele and her father

According to Adele, the pop singer has stated publicly in the past that she was not very close to her father. It turns out that her estranged dad had actually walked out on her and the rest of her family when the “Hello” star was only three years old to return to his native home town in Wales. So while the news of Mark Evan’s passing may be upsetting, Adele did not even know her father that well in the first place.

Throughout the past years, the fifty-seven-year-old father of pop singer Adele has claimed to have made peace with his daughter. However, every single time Evans has spoken out about this, the thirty-three-year-old pop star has denied such statements. A source told The Sun that “he made a few attempts to make things right, but clearly it had been too long”.

“Mark’s family are of course very upset by his passing. He always hoped things would work out with Adele, but it remained acrimonious to the end”, the source added to The Sun. The relationship between Adele and her father throughout her years has always been quite rocky, but as she rose to international stardom, it only deteriorated further and further.

A neutral feeling

In interviews from years ago, Adele has emphasized that she doesn’t necessarily have a strong disdain for her father, saying: “I don’t hate him — he’s my dad”. However, it didn’t mean that she loved him either. He even later gave an interview to a magazine once, which Adele’s mom Penny told him that he should not have done. Could that have been the last straw for Adele?

Later on, The Sun reported that Evans said he and Adele ended up reconciling and sharing a drink with one another during her Adele Live tour in support of her second studio album 21. However, the “Rolling in the Deep” singer has said that the story was false. She even threw some shade at her dad in the 2017 Grammy Awards speech, when she thanked her manager.

She said: “Thank you to my manager because the comeback, as it were, was completely masterminded by him. . . We’ve been together for ten years, and I love you like you’re my dad. I love you so, so much. I don’t love my dad, that’s the thing. That doesn’t mean a lot. I love you like I would love my dad”, the star admitted on stage to a shocked crowd.

Some regrets

Mark Evans later admitted about his daughter that he “was a rotten father at a time when she really needed me”, and added that “I was putting away two litres of vodka and seven or eight pints of Stella every day. I drank like that for three years. God only knows how I survived it. I was deeply ashamed of what I’d become and I knew the kindest thing I could do for Adele was to make sure she never saw me in that state”.

He even referred to his feud with singer Adele as a “misunderstanding”. In 2013, the father to the pop star told the public that he was battling bowel cancer and shared that he was scared he would never meet his grandson, Angelo, which is Adele’s son with Simon Konecki whom she divorced in March.

It’s unclear if the two ended up ever meeting one another. While Adele has stated time and time again that she was not close to her father, we’re sure this may still be a tough time for her. We’re hoping for nothing but the best for her and sending all the love and good wishes we can!
