Is Adele dropping her new album now? Why Twitter thinks so

Rumor has it that pop sensation Adele is releasing a new album in February. The thirty-two year old British singer hasn’t made an album since 25 was released in 2015 and with a five-year absence comes speculation of a comeback. Possible themes, collaborators, and even duet partners were speculated on when Twitter broke the news yesterday.

With Twitter abuzz with the news, we’ve decided to break down some of the rumors surrounding the “All I Ask” singer’s latest work. No word yet if it will be named after an age but our fingers are crossed.

New album inspirations

What could your next favorite song to cry to possibly be about? A lot has happened to Adele since 25 was released. She lost a significant amount of weight, garnering praise & criticism from the media & public back in May 2020. Speculation about her weight loss journey began over a year earlier, with the singer posting captions on her Instagram page like, “I used to cry but now I sweat.”

Adele was also rumored to be on a very strict diet, called the Sirt Diet, which focuses on very specific natural foods rich in sirtuin-activating polyphenols, a group of enzymes that mimics the effects of exercise & fasting. Her trainer Pete Geracimo is known for using the diet with his clients.  With over 100 pounds lost and such large media scrutiny, fans are speculating that her health journey could be a topic sung about on the album.

Divorce is expected to be a huge theme for the British singer’s next album. Break-ups have always been an inspiration to Adele, with the albums 19, 21, and 25 all documenting specific romantic splits in her life. She married charity entrepreneur Simon Konecki in 2016, having been with him since 2011. They had one child together, Angelo, born in 2012.

Adele filed for divorce from Konecki in September 2019. The two still live close together, co-parenting Angelo. The star was in high spirits when she hosted Saturday Night Live last fall. Between her dramatic weight-loss, divorce & co-parenting, Adele certainly has enough material for a new album but who will be on it?

Collaborators

In the five years since her last album’s release, Adele has voiced her love & support for many R&B performers including Queen Bey herself. It should come as no surprise that Beyonce is rumored to be joining Adele on the album’s first single. A long time member of the Beyhive, Adele even shouted out Lemonade in her Grammys’ speech in 2017.

Behind the scenes, the critically acclaimed artist, H.E.R and multi-platinum record producer Raphael Saadiq, are rumored to be producing and songwriting on the new album. Coincidentally, H.E.R was the musical guest when Adele hosted SNL back in October. With both H.E.R. and Saadiq involved in the project, twitter fans are anticipating R&B vibes from Adele’s new work.

Release date

Back in October when she hosted SNL, Adele addressed why she was only hosting the show, not performing as well, noting “My album’s not finished.” The singer then went on Instagram posting her thanks to the cast & crew, ending it with “I’m going back to my cave now to be the (single) cat lady that I am! Peace out til next year.” Fans then speculated her new album would drop in 2021.

One eagle-eyed fan noticed that Adele shares a manager with London Grammar, a  British pop trio, who recently pushed their new album release back to April 9th from February 12th. No reason was given for the date change, with lead singer Hannah Reid apologizing for the band and noting the change in a tweet. Many fans believe that London Grammar’s change was to make room for Adele’s release at that time.

But what do you think? Are you excited about the new album? Who else should Adele duet with? Let us know in the comments below.
