Will Prince Harry and his young children attend Charles’s coronation?
The drama continues with King Charles and Prince Harry. The two men have rarely seen eye-to-eye, at least, according to Prince Harry, and his decision to reject his royal status has only exacerbated their differences. The release of Harry’s memoir, Spare, reportedly left the Royal family, and King Charles in particular, “rattled.”
So what does this mean for King Charles’s upcoming coronation? Will Harry, his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children be in attendance, or will they continue their cold war with the rest of the Royals and decline?
Here’s what you need to know about the family dynamic ahead of the coronation.
Royal background
Prince Harry is a member of the British royal family. He is the younger son of Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, and the late Princess Diana. He was born on September 15, 1984, in London, United Kingdom.
Before recently stepping back as a senior royal, Prince Harry was known for his charitable work and his military service, among other things. His aforementioned wife, Meghan Markle, is an American actress and former member of the cast of the television show Suits.
King Charles, his father, is a member of the British royal family and the heir apparent to the British throne. He was born on November 14, 1948, in London, United Kingdom. He is the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
Throughout his life, King Charles has been involved in a variety of charitable and philanthropic causes, and he is particularly passionate about environmental issues. He is also known for his interest in art and architecture, and for his efforts to preserve historic buildings and landmarks.
King Charles’s recent claim to the throne came from his position as the eldest son of the current reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. As the monarch’s eldest son, he is next in line to the throne after his mother.
Coronation rules
This system of succession is known as “primogeniture,” meaning that the eldest son inherits the throne first, followed by any of his male descendants in order of birth. If King Charles were to pass away before becoming king, his eldest son, Prince William, would then become next in line to the throne.
A coronation is a formal ceremony in which a monarch is crowned and invested with regalia, or royal symbols of power and authority. The ceremony typically involves a variety of rituals, including anointing the monarch with holy oil, placing the crown on their head, and presenting them with other symbolic regalia such as a scepter and orb.
The coronation is usually held in a religious setting, such as a church or cathedral, and is often attended by dignitaries, members of the royal family, and other important figures. The coronation is a significant event in the history of a monarchy, as it marks the beginning of the new monarch’s reign and formalizes their authority as ruler.
Family drama
All of these rules and traditional arrangements have been obscured, somewhat, by the drama that’s been occurring between King Charles and Prince Harry. They’ve grown apart since the latter announced that he would be stepping away from the Royal family and moving to the United States with his wife.
Harry has also released a memoir that details the mistreatment of his late mother, Princess Diana, and his wife at the hands of the Royal family. Needless to say, King Charles has not been pleased. He reportedly evicted Harry and Meghan Markle from their home, which was gifted to them by Queen Elizabeth II.
While nothing is set in stone, all reports support the belief that Prince Harry and his children will be attending the coronation ceremony. Despite the strife between him and King Charles, many feel that it would be in the best interest of Harry’s children’s futures if they were all to attend. Harry and Meghan Markle have not spoken publicly about the ceremony, which will take place on May 6, 2023.
