Finished ‘Dateline’? Unmask these YouTube true crime channels
Just when we thought the pandemic was beginning to die down, a new variant came threatening to take us back to square one. Clearly, there are people getting the absolute worst out of this time but there’s far too many of us who don’t realize how fortunate we really are. We’ve grown accustomed to certain things that we’ve taken them for granted.
Now is still the best time to be alive. And for those of us who didn’t lose any loved ones, we really need to change the way we see this pandemic. Yes, it’s slowed many of us down but perhaps we needed to slow down. Sometimes, we need to get through a crisis like this pandemic with some relaxing tunes, perhaps some yoga sessions. But others need some true crime.
We’re getting the sense that you’ve finished Dateline? We’ve gathered a few well-researched, captivating true crime channels on YouTube. They’ll take your mind off quarantine and make all your hours of self-isolation feel like nothing. Maybe, once the pandemic is really over, you’ll miss these times of true crime nights!
Coffee and Crime Time With Stephanie Harlowe
We could always binge Dateline again and again but eventually we’ll get bored. You must keep the suspense going. It’s always more fun when we have no idea what’s going to happen next.
Stephanie Harlowe has been known to stand out among today’s true crime YouTubers, because of how deep she takes her research on each case. On her series Coffee and Crime Time, Harlowe covers the infamous classic true crime stories like Charles Manson and his cult of followers. You’ll listen to ongoing cases like Lori Vallow and her missing children JJ Vallow and Tylee Ryan.
Hear about the cases of Scott and Laci Peterson, Michelle Carter and Conrad Roy, and the JonBenet Ramsey case. It’s honestly a must-see true crime series on YouTube where you’ll see cases across multiple episodes, carrying ultra-specific details that other YouTubers, podcasters and reporters tend to marginalize.
BuzzFeed Unsolved Network
Buzzfeed’s iconic Unsolved Network on YouTube blows the dust off of cold cases. They make themselves responsible for all things macabre, creepy and strange, straight up cult-like from Edgar Allen Poe’s mysterious death to unexplained disappearances. There’s a little sanctuary for fans of complex criminal investigations.
Halloween is coming and maybe you still want to avoid going out to the store for non essentials. Perhaps, you’ve decided to put off Halloween decorations. Buzzfeed’s Unsolved Network on YouTube is perfect for the thrills and spooks of the season. Yet, it’ll still go perfect with Dateline.
In addition to the true crimes, you’ll also get a breakdown of popular conspiracy theories, talks with alleged psychics, harrowing first-person stories, paranormal investigators about everything: tales like surviving kidnappings to being struck by lightning.
True Crime Daily
Once you’re finished with Dateline, it may feel like there’s too many more titles to choose from (of course, that’s not a bad thing). You choose your own path but at some point, let it take you to True Crime Daily on YouTube.
It began as an investigative journalism series called Crime Watch Daily. The show was hosted by Matt Doran in season 1, and the famous Chris Hansen (formerly of To Catch a Predator) in seasons 2 and 3. True Crime Daily’s stories go live on YouTube, coming in easy-to-follow, twenty minute segments.
You’ll hear many grisly and puzzling stories you won’t hear much about on the news. You’ll see interviews with key figures in each case with information unveiled by police reports and interrogations.
