Why is drinking boiled lettuce juice the latest TikTok challenge?
TikTok’s latest challenge will have you feeling like Peter Rabbit. The newest TikTok challenge of drinking boiled lettuce water in order to help you sleep is not the most insane challenge the site has to offer, but it got quite the chuckle out of TikTok users.
The challenge, which was started by TikTok user shapla 11, seems to be based on users’ misunderstanding of a 2017 study’s findings on the sleep-inducing effects of lettuce on mice. The mice were given extracts from the leaves & seeds of a few types of lettuce in order to test whether the extracts improved sleep. Though the mice slept better, it’s important to note that they were given a sedative first and, well, they’re mice.
Of course, Twitter had quite a bit to say about this latest TikTok challenge, with many giving this leafy tea a whirl with . . . minimal but hilarious results. We sipped our way through the threads to find the best reactions to this TikTok challenge. Grab your tea kettles and dive into these reactions to the boiled lettuce TikTok challenge.
I haven’t succumbed to trying the boiled lettuce water sleep hack on TikTok yet, so I think I’m doing quite well in terms of trend resistance.

Unfortunately, many others were not so lucky . . .

I do also realise I’m drinking lettuce water on a Friday eve at 11pm. Life has become THAT exciting.

Exciting
Hey, that’s one way to keep yourself on your toes . . .
I think it helps if you chant "Lettuce sleep" over and over again as you sip it slowly.

Get chanting
This does seem like something out of a Sabrina: The Teenage Witch episode.
Wouldn't this give the drinker gas and other lovely, explosive treasures?! pic.twitter.com/BFqY6omfLi

Eating a kiwi is apparently good a few hours before bedtime. I’d definitely rather do that 😉— Dr Fiona Barker (@Fi_BGB) June 11, 2021
Much rather this
That does sound a lot nicer than this . . . odd concoction . . .
Well according to Peter Rabbit, lettuce is 'soporific'! Always loved that word in a children's picture book.

Insomnia
Unfortunately, this trend is only going to lead you to the porcelain altar. Sorry!
they said it on tiktok that it works. boil some lettuce, drink the water. dunk the boiled lettuce into some soy sauce and have it on rice the next day, after youve had your sleep

That sounds both wrong & delicious.
