Did Tom Felton have a childhood romance with Emma Watson?

Harry Potter fans have been wondering if Tom Felton had a secret romance with Emma Watson for ages. It may have started more as a hope that Hermione Granger & Draco Malfoy would somehow end up together (shipping “Dramione” has been a tradition since the earliest Harry Potter books). Then in 2012, when Watson admitted to having a crush on Felton when she was a kid, fans all hopped onto shipping “Feltston”.

The rumors have only grown through the years, as fans have heard time & time again that Tom Felton has stayed in close contact with Emma Watson since the end of the Harry Potter films. There’s no denying the two share a certain chemistry both on- & off-screen. Other costars see it, too. In 2019, Rupert Grint said of them in an interview, “There was always something. There was a little bit of a spark”. 

New Harry Potter ventures are pushing these romantic rumors back to the forefront. HBO Max is working on Harry Potter related content. The third Fantastic Beasts movie is just around the corner. Warner Bros. is gearing up to open the first ever Harry Potter flagship store in New York City. Amidst all the media buzz, Felton was recently asked about his relationship with Watson. Dramione & Feltston

So, is there any truth to the swirling romantic rumors? With a slight blush, Tom Felton didn’t outright deny having feelings for Emma Watson. When asked about their relationship, he said, “We are something, if that makes any sense. We’ve been very close for a long time. I adore her. I think she’s fantastic”. 

When the interviewer pushed a little harder on the possible romantic nature of their relationship, Felton said those rumors lean a little too heavily on Harry Potter fanfiction. “As far as the romantic side of it, I think that’s a Slytherin/Gryffindor thing rather than a Tom & Emma thing,” he said, continuing with, “I absolutely think the world of her . . . I think she’s a fantastic influence on the world”. 

As difficult as that may be to hear for Feltston true believers, the good news is that Felton & Watson are still close friends and talk often. Felton said he speaks with Watson regularly, to the point that when they talk the conversation quickly turns to mundane topics like “the kitchen sink’s been plugged” or “my dog wouldn’t eat a particular kind of food”. 

Close Ties

Of course, along with Emma Watson, Tom Felton stays close with most of the other Harry Potter cast members. To hear him tell it, the whole group has become more like family than friends. He said, “It is nice that we’re in sort of four different corners of the earth and yet when we catch up, it feels like yesterday that this was all going on”. 

Considering they’re all still in close communication, it’s only natural to wonder whether or not they’re discussing another Harry Potter project. Ever since WarnerMedia’s CEO said that the company was working with HBO Max to produce some new Harry Potter content, fans have been hoping for news of a sequel series that brings back everyone’s favorite group of now-graduated Hogwarts students.

Unfortunately, Felt poured cold water on those hopes, though he admitted to anything being possible. “I doubt it highly, but listen, the Harry Potter flame is not going to burn out anytime soon. It wouldn’t surprise me”. Luckily, there’s no shortage of Harry Potter content to relive for now. Plus, there’s the new Harry Potter store in New York City.
