Is Nicolas Cage getting a new movie? Delve into the strange details
Nicolas Cage is known for his eccentricity and for playing dramatic characters in wacky movies. It’s just what he does, and that means seeing one of his movies during a bad movie marathon is rather common.
However, the man must be an absolute delight to work with because he continues to make movies that entertain us (whether we like them or not is irrelevant, they are entertaining). If you’re itching for a new crazy Cage movie then we have great news for you. A movie called The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is currently in production, stars Nicolas Cage, and is expected to be released in 2021.
Want to know more about this odd star-studded movie? We have all the details for you.
What’s it about?
True to Cage’s form The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent has a plot that is a little “out there”. Nicolas Cage will be playing a fictional version of himself that’s a bit low on funds and is looking to make a few bucks. When a mega-rich billionaire fan wants to pay Cage a million dollars to appear at a birthday party Cage can’t say no.
However, Cage is actually a CIA informant who will have to draw upon the knowledge he’s gained from previous acting roles and the mega-rich fan is actually a drug kingpin. Oh, and someone gets cast in a Tarantino movie. We’re not entirely sure who but we think it’s the drug kingpin – not the fictionalized version of actor Nicolas Cage.
A biopic this certainly is not. At least . . . we don’t think it is – honestly with Cage we wouldn’t even be surprised.
Who’s in it?
Cage isn’t the only big name in this new movie. It turns out the cast is actually rather star-studded. For starters, Pedro Pascal is playing the drug kingpin who may or may not be cast in a Tarantino movie.
The cast list also touts Tiffany Haddish and Neil Patrick Harris. Haddish’s character is named Vivian according to IMDb. There isn’t much information about what this role is. Harris’s character is said to be Cage’s talent agent, though nobody knows for sure at the moment.
Sharon Horgan is also listed as being part of the film – she may not be a household name, but she has worked on popular shows and movies such as BoJack Horseman, Adventure Time, Game Night, and others so it’s probable you’ve come across her before.
What to expect
It sounds like this movie has no intention of taking itself seriously – in fact, it sounds like a pretty meta acknowledgment of all the internet jokes about Cage’s various weird roles over the years. Instead of being offended, it sounds as if Cage has embraced his notoriety and is currently in the midst of creating the next weird laugh-out-loud action-comedy we can poke fun at with friends.
Will this be a “good” movie? Probably not. Will it be a couple of hours of entertainment that distracts us from the real world and makes us giggle & chuckle? We’re thinking that’s likely to be a resounding yes, and frankly, sometimes that’s all a movie needs to be.
We could maybe even use a couple more movies like this one in our lives, instead of the massive slew of angsty anti-heroes in depressing unsavable dystopias that Hollywood keeps thrusting our way.
We can’t wait to watch the new wonderful weird this movie will provide, and we recommend that if you decide to watch it you go in with the same mentality. You’ll have a lot more fun, we’re sure of it. In the meantime, we’re going to rewatch Face Off to see if maybe we can get it to make sense this time . . . spoiler alert: the answer is no, we can’t.
