‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’: Watch this exciting trailer for the movie
The latest trailer for LeBron James’s Space Jam: A New Legacy has officially dropped online, set to be released on July 17th in both movie theaters across the galaxy as well as on the HBO Max streaming service as part of Warner Bros. 2021 same day release campaign.
The latest trailer shows us nothing that we didn’t already know, reminding us of LeBron James’s relevance even though his real-life Los Angeles Lakers just got eliminated in the first round of the NBA playoffs by the Phoenix Suns. Perhaps if Bugs Bunny or Lola Bunny were the ones shooting he would have a better shot at a 2021 championship. I guess the Tune Squad will have to bail Bron out, now. Check out the full trailer!
Regardless of its silliness, we’re excited to return to the world of basketball and Looney Tunes once more, this time helmed by four-time NBA champion LeBron James. Are you excited for the upcoming Space Jam sequel? Perhaps you need a quick refresher course on the world of Space Jam, originally occupied by his airness, Michael Jordan. Don’t worry, we’ll help you recall this beautifully nostalgic movie before diving into the sequel.
Space Jam
1996 saw the release of Space Jam, a bizarre project that over the years grew a cult following, specifically due to the power of nostalgia as well as an amazing soundtrack, featuring Monica, Seal, Coolio, Method Man, and that one dude who was trapped in the closet that one time.
The movie told the story of, well, Michael Jordan, set to retire from the game of basketball to pursue a career in professional baseball. Meanwhile, in another dimension, Bugs Bunny and the Looney Tunes gang are facing a dilemma of their own, being challenged by evolving aliens in a basketball game with the Tunes’ very freedom on the line.
So who must they recruit in order to help them defeat the once tiny, now large “Monstars”? That’s right . . . Air Jordan. The film also featured appearances from Bill Murray, Larry Bird, Wayne Knight, and other 1990s NBA favorites like Charles Barkley and Patrick Ewing.
Space Jam: A New Legacy
Directed by Malcolm D. Lee, the cousin of Spike Lee, Space Jam: A New Legacy will see four-time NBA Champion LeBron James take the reins once held by his Airness, stepping onto the courts with the likes of Bugs Bunny, Daffy, Tweety, Porky, Elmer, Taz, Foghorn, and of course, Lola Bunny, a character who will reportedly turn in her “sexy” performance from the 1990s in exchange for more “strong female” characteristics.
The story will see James and his son, an aspiring video game developer, trapped in a virtual space by a dangerous rogue algorithm (Don Cheadle). The only escape? A basketball game, of course! LeBron and the Looney Tunes must defeat the algorithm’s digitally created champions in order to return home safely.
The film will also feature appearances from a variety of NBA & WNBA stars, including Damian Lillard, Klay Thompson, Anthony Davis, Chris Paul, and Diana Taurasi. As well, it’s obvious by the latest trailer that Warner Bros. plans to do a “property dump” in the movie similar to 2018’s Ready Player One, plugging in their timeless properties such as Lord of the Rings, The Iron Giant, King Kong, as well as other familiar characters.
