Will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attack the royal family in this doc?
“Not all fairytales have the perfect ending” reads the tagline for the upcoming Lifetime film, Harry and Meghan: Escaping The Palace, set to air on the soapy network on September, 6th, 2021. And now, with a new trailer out, it’s clear that this film will likely depict a grim world for the once royal couple, given clips of the famous Oprah interview as well as flashbacks of what looks to be like Princess Diana’s tragic car accident.
Similar to the Saw franchise, it seems as if Lifetime pumps out a Prince Harry & Meghan Markle film every year, a solid strategy given the exciting & constantly evolving relationship of this once royal couple. To be fair, a lot has happened even in this past year with Prince Harry & Meghan Markle, specifically their decision to depart their senior roles from the royal family and move to the U.S.
It will be interesting to see just what major milestones Harry and Meghan: Escaping The Palace cover in the film. As well, will the film end with a cliffhanger of a depressed Meghan Markle sitting on a bench, the inspiration to her new children’s book while Prince Harry comes over to comfort her, setting audiences down a path of expectation for a possible Return of the Jedi of Lifetime’s royal saga? We’ll have to wait and see.
Harry and Meghan: Escaping The Palace
Harry and Meghan: Escaping The Palace is Lifetime’s third effort at the royal love story of Prince Harry & Meghan Markle, following Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance and Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal. The movie is set to star Jordan Dean as Prince Harry as well as Sydney Morton as Meghan Markle.
Lifetime’s synopsis for the film details how the movie will dive into “Meghan’s growing isolation and sadness, their disappointment that ‘The Firm’ was not defending them against the press’s attacks, and Harry’s fear that history would repeat itself and he would not be able to protect his wife and son from the same forces that caused his mother’s untimely death.”
The movie, which is also expected to detail the internal feud within the Royal Family, recently released its first promotional still from the film, clearly set to resemble the real life Commonwealth Day service of 2020, which was Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s final appearance as royal members of the family. We’re not doubting that this movie will be extremely cheesy as well as unnecessary, but the casting seems to be spot-on.
What to cover?
From “Megxit” to the Oprah Winfrey interview, there’s certainly a lot to cover regarding Prince Harry & Meghan Markle since Lifetime’s last film. Need a quick refresher of what events have yet to be covered?
On January 8th, 2020, Meghan Markle & Prince Harry announced on their Instagram account that they would be stepping away from their senior duties within the royal family, having only served the role of the Duchess of Sussex for a couple of years. The move, at the time, was described as an opportunity to split their time between both the UK and the U.S., as well as become financially independent and live a normal life.
As well, Meghan Markle spoke candidly with Oprah Winfrey regarding her short-lived experience in the royal limelight last March, disclosing how she fell into a deep & dark place that was nearly suicidal. Markle would later in the interview go on to explain how there were even conversations in the family regarding a future child for herself and Prince Harry, specifically regarding the possibility of a darker skin tone.
