Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul: Will this fight be another scam?
Having been moved several dates thanks to both negotiations as well as the current global pandemic, we now know officially that the Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul fight will take place on June 6th at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, FL. This move surprised many, seeing as Floyd typically likes to fight in Las Vegas. However, perhaps this is an effort to pack a stadium full of fans, given Florida’s loosened restrictions.
The news, which was announced on Tuesday night, let fans of boxing around the world know that five-time world champion and sport’s diva Floyd Mayweather would be taking on the YouTube sensation turned boxer Logan Paul on Showtime pay-per-view. “Mayweather Promotions, Fanmio and Showtime will team up to give you an epic event,” Mayweather wrote on his Instagram account. But is this fight a scam?
Floyd Mayweather, who is now forty-four year old, has clearly set up this “special exhibition” in an effort to maximize his net worth as well as his boxing record. While Logan Paul is a strong boxer, even at the amateur stage, it’s obvious that Mayweather is seeking opponents who are of high profile but low risk in the ring, nearly guaranteeing for him both a win as well as a high audience & viewer turnout.
Floyd Mayweather
Floyd Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) retired from his illustrious boxing career after defeating MMA star and loudmouth Conor McGregor by a 10th-round TKO in a boxing match in 2017 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Mayweather has won titles as a junior lightweight, lightweight, junior welterweight, welterweight and junior middleweight.
Mayweather will likely keep the same strategy against Logan Paul as he does for many opponents he’s certain he can beat, by letting the opponent hang on for a few rounds, get in some body shots before securing his strikes in later rounds to guarantee his win. The Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul fight has not yet announced the size of gloves or the number of rounds, yet.
Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul is expected to draw in huge numbers for this pay-per-view exhibition, possibly garnering the sport’s biggest financial outcome since Mayweather’s last fight against McGregor four years ago.
Logan Paul
Twenty-six-year-old Logan Paul (0-1, 0 KOs) is known for his problematic past, most of which he had decided to film and put on his YouTube channel. Nothing was more shocking than his 2017 video of visiting Japan’s “suicide forest” to which he and his friends came across a dead body, hanging from a tree. It was a notorious moment amongst the YouTube community, giving Paul the long label of “biggest @$$hole on YouTube”.
However, While Logan Paul still has his fair share of mishaps, he has managed to clean up his image and devote much of his time to professional boxing, much like his younger brother and fellow YouTube star, Jake Paul. Logan Paul, who is scheduled to fight the legendary Floyd Mayweather here in June, should consider the match as fair atonement as he’s likely to get his butt whooped pretty bad by this iconic fighter.
Logan Paul, who is currently listed at 6’2” and almost 200 pounds will certainly have his hands full come June 6th, when the world finally gets to watch Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul. Believe us, we’ll be right there with you as we tune into the fight . . . as boring as it might be.
