Scooby-Doo meets Courage the Cowardly Dog in the newest movie. See if these two lovable scaredy dogs can save the world (or Nowhere).

Will the newest ‘Scooby Doo’ movie feature ‘Courage the Cowardly Dog’?

Crossover is the name of the game as of late. From Batman teaming up with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to a bunch of heroes getting together in Avengers: Endgame, there has been a lot of crossover in TV, movies, comics, etc. Now, however, we’re seeing one of the biggest crossovers in history, and it has to do with two dogs that get scared very, very easily.

Ah yes, the lovable cowards that are Scooby-Doo and Courage the Cowardly Dog. While Scooby-Doo helped the gang of the Mystery Machina solve cases involving fake ghosts from crooked real estate scams, Courage had to deal with existential, eldritch terror in the middle of nowhere Kansas. But Millennials, Zilennials, and even Zoomers could have fond memories of watching these shows.

So what brings Courage together with Scooby-Doo? How will TV’s greatest cowards (but not really because they do do the thing) team up? Will the adventure send the Scooby-Doo gang into an existential crisis like when “Scoobynatural” over on Supernatural happened? Let’s take a look at the trailer and see what we all need to know!

How did this even happen? What’s it about?

Listen either someone in the WB animated writer’s room broke out their thinking weed or the concept just sounded fun, you take your pick. Either way, it’s the 20th anniversary of the beloved Courage the Cowardly Dog so might as well have him team up with Scooby-Doo. It’s like a right of passage in animation at this point in history, you know? Why not do it?

As SYFY Wire describes the movie: “Mystery, Inc [is] on the tail of a strange object in Nowhere, Kansas: the desolate hometown of Courage and his owners, Muriel and Eustace Bagge, which also happens to be a nexus of strange supernatural occurrences. Scooby (Frank Welker) and the gang soon find themselves contending with a giant cicada monster (particularly fitting in 2021) and her wacky winged warriors.

To take down the insectoid conspiracy that’s just too big for a household flyswatter, they’ll need the help of another timid mutt, Courage (Marty Grabstein). Can the two iconic mongrels overcome their jitters to solve the case or will they completely bug out? Like, zoinks, man — that’s the real mystery!” Also joining the duo is equally anxious Shaggy, which means so much screaming.

Aren’t the animation styles totally different though?

Good question! The director/producer for Straight Outta Nowhere, Cecilia Aranovich said in a statement that they tried to bring both worlds together in a way that makes sense. “Merging the two worlds in a cohesive manner was one of the most challenging aspects of production,” she said, but she feels like the team had found a way to achieve balance.

“But I feel we found the right balance by bringing in the design elements and the color palette from the Courage world, as well as infusing Scooby and the gang with the more over-the-top takes and reactions that are so characteristic of Courage. The movie is filled with Easter eggs from the first Courage series, and it is packed with quirky humor, offbeat characters, outlandish action scenes and, of course, the mystery factor that is inherent in every Scooby-Doo! Plot.”

From the trailer, there appears to be a good mix of both, even though wow this is really happening, huh? The film will be available for purchase on Sept. 14, just in time to pregame for spooky season.
