‘The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder’: Who’s joining the revival’s cast?

The Proud Family is one of those series that is fondly, fondly remembered all who watched it growing up. Running from 2001 to 2005, the series follows the adventures of Penny Proud (Kyla Pratt), a teenage girl trying to navigate her life, her friends, and her loud yet embarrassing family. The Proud Family had a good mix of humor and, at times, drama. It was also not afraid to handle some heavy issues.

News of a revival of the beloved series definitely caught fans interest. Nostalgia was high amongst the millennials that watched the series up to The Proud Family Movie. Each detail only got people more excited. The original cast is set to return to voice their characters, which yes please. Now, however, we have news on more characters & cast who are joining The Proud Family: Louder & Prouder.

What we know about The Proud Family: Louder & Prouder

As stated, The Proud Family will see the original cast of Pratt as Penny Proud, Tommy Davidson as Oscar Proud, Paula Jai Parker as Trudy Proud, Jo Marie Payton as Suga Mama, Karen Malina White as Dijonay Jones, Soleil Moon Frye as Zoey Howzer, Alisa Reyes as LaCienega Boulevardez, and Cedric the Entertainer as Uncle Bobby Proud reprise their roles.

The first new character announced was Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins, who is described as a teenage activist. Keke Palmer is set to join the cast of The Proud Family in order to voice Maya’s character. Her design was released about a month ago. We’re excited to see what Maya will bring to the series.

The Proud Family: Louder & Prouder is currently in production with an eye for a 2022 release date. So we still have a lot of time to get through before we see the family back in action on our screens again. The series, naturally, will be released through Disney+. But, hey, if you want to binge, the original series of The Proud Family is on there for you to enjoy.

Who has joined the cast of The Proud Family: Louder & Prouder?

We are dying over this excellent casting news, everyone. Emmy award-winning actor Billy Porter (Pose) & Zachary Quinto (NOS4A2) are set to join the cast of The Proud Family as the parents to Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins, Barry (Quinto) & Randall (Porter). The two are the mixed raced adoptive dads to 14-year-old Maya. Based on the images of the characters, we already love them.

The other new character announced is Penny’s “best guy friend” Michael Collins. EJ Johnson (Rich Kids of Beverly Hills) is set to voice the character, who is described “a non-conforming trendsetter, serving up fierce looks at school and on the basketball court.” This is a revamp from the character in the OG series, who was voiced by Phil LaMarr.

The new characters sound awesome, and the casting is getting us more hyped than ever for the revival of The Proud Family. Seriously? Billy Porter!!! We would have screamed our heads off at that choice, but with each new revelation we just get more & more hyped for the upcoming series.

Anything else to expect from The Proud Family: Louder & Prouder?

Not much else has been released about the series. The creatives behind it are Bruce W. Smith (The Princess and the Frog) and Ralph Farquhar (Moesha), both of whom led the original series. Calvin Brown, Jr. (Moesha) is co-executive producer and story editor, Jan Hirota (Big Hero 6 The Series) is producer, and Eastwood Wong (Carmen Sandiego) is art director.

As stated, there is no release date at this time for The Proud Family: Louder & Prouder, but it is expected to hit Disney+ sometime in 2022.
