Summer starts now: Take a look at Netflix’s new original movies

Are you ready for the summer? Fresh air. Warm weather. Hopefully a return to some sort of normalcy so we’re not all baking under our masks and getting weird tan lines like last year. Just us? That’s cool. Either way, Netflix has plenty of original summer movies to check out this year. So if you’re thinking about staying inside, then good news! There are plenty of things to check out.

But what sort of original movies can we expect on Netflix this summer? Well the good news on that front is that Netflix has released a teaser promising its summer original movies. From Channing Tatum as George Washington to Lin-Manuel Miranda singing his way into our hearts yet again, here are the Netflix original movies that you’ll want to unwind with after having some fun in the sun.

Army of the Dead

Kicking the summer off strong is the Zack Snyder directed zombie-action-heist movie. Taking place in a post-apocalyptic world where Las Vegas has become a zombie infested town largely left to its own devices. Until a team of mercenaries go in to steal the several hundred million dollars left behind before the zombie outbreak ravaged the city in a big way.

Unfortunately these zombies are not mindless creatures. They’re smart, fast, and, most horrifyingly, organized. In fact, it looks like they have some form of human sentience and compassion based on the trailer. Well for their fellow zombie at least. We saw that forehead touch when Netflix dropped the trailer for this majorly anticipated original movie. Will our team be able to complete the heist without dying?

Um. We’re guessing no.

Vivo

If zombie movies aren’t your thing or you want something you can watch with your kids, then chances are that Vivo is right up your alley. This animated movie stars Lin-Manuel Miranda. Based on the trailer, we’re already super charmed by it. Look at how cute Vivo is!

We follow Vivo a “a one-of-kind kinkajou (aka a rainforest “honey bear,” voiced by Miranda), who must find his way from Havana to Miami in order to deliver a song on behalf of his beloved owner and mentor Andres (Buena Vista Social Club’s Juan de Marcos Gonzáles).” Miranda also wrote original songs for Vivo whose cast also includes pop legend Gloria Estefan, Zoe Saldana, Michael Rooker, Nicole Byer, and Ynairaly Simo.

America: The Motion Picture

This animated revisionist history imagines George Washington (voiced by Channing Tatum) wielding a chainsaw and gathering a group of historical figures to go against Benedict Arnold & King James. The team includes “beer-loving bro Sam Adams, famed scientist Thomas Edison, acclaimed horseman Paul Revere, and a very pissed off Geronimo.”

In addition to Tatum, this wildest of Netflix original movies also stars Jason Mantzoukas, Olivia Munn, Bobby Moynihan, Judy Greer, Will Forte, Raoul Max Trujillo and Killer Mike, with Simon Pegg and Andy Samberg. The film will be available June 30.

The Kissing Booth 3

We’ve said goodbye for the To All The Boys franchise, now it’s time to say goodbye to The Kissing Booth. Or, well, we’re assuming so considering the trilogy format. But who knows? Maybe we’ll see a fourth to The Kissing Booth franchise. Either way, we’re going to visit Elle (Joey King), Lee (Joel Courtney), and Noah (Jacob Elordi) to see what’s going on with them after last year’s The Kissing Booth 2

Will Elle & Noah stay together? Time can only tell on that front. Either way, we’re interested in seeing what goes down.
