Max and Harvey: The rise of the singing TikTok duo
TikTok has provided some much-needed entertainment during 2020. Following the sad departure of popular video app Vine, many believed the beloved app couldn’t be replaced. TikTok came along and changed things. Originally Musical.ly, TikTok was released in 2016, but only became popular during the last couple of years.
Seventeen-year-old identical twin brothers Max & Harvey Mills have become TikTok sensations. What’s so special about the English singing duo? Here’s everything you need to know.
Twice the fun
Max and Harvey are social media stars with a large following thanks to video-sharing app TikTok. With 6 million followers and over 750 million likes across their videos, Max and Harvey have quickly become one of the most popular UK TikTok accounts. Along with their eleven-year-old sister Tilly, the family has gained a lot of popularity.

Twins Max and Harvey are best known for singing original songs and covering some pop classics. They also document their family life on social media. The pair weren’t expecting the popularity from TikTok, but wanted to share their talent with the public.
“We couldn’t quite get our heads around what was happening [gaining millions of followers]. Even now, we look at some of those videos which have 1.7 million views and you can’t put it into perspective. If you imagine that number of people in front of you, that’s just something that you never think would happen.”
Who are Max and Harvey?
Harvey is currently studying drumming at music college and Max is studying production in hopes of replicating DJs like the late Avicii. Both Max and Harvey are no strangers to the music industry. Their father, a musical theatre aficionado and Royal Academy of Music alumnus, had them singing and performing from a young age.
The twins have some acting credits from appearing in shows such as, William and Mary and their own TV show on CBBC My Life: Max And Harvey. Originally, Max and Harvey joined Musical.ly before the app transitioned into TikTok. Max and Harvey also became authors with Max And Harvey: In A Book.
Their music careers have been reaching new heights when they signed with record label RMI Records in 2019. Max and Harvey have remained independent in managing their careers ensuring their image remains authentic.

Sing your hearts out
Max and Harvey were recognized for their newfound stardom and in 2019 competed on The X Factor: Celebrity in the UK. Despite landing in second place, the twins and their fame only increased. “It helped launch us as artists, made our voices better, and improved our confidence on stage too.”
“We got an email about the show at first and thought it was just one of things that would be a long process and wouldn’t happen. Then someone explained the format and it sounded fun. We did the audition at Simon’s house and got through. Then we realised, this is really happening,” Max shared about the X Factor process. Simon Cowell went as far as to name the twins the next “Ant and Dec” (British TV presenters).
Unfortunately, winning wasn’t on the cards, and lost to hopeful country singer Megan McKenna. In February 2019, Max and Harvey released their debut EP Coming Soon with songs such as, “Where Were You”, “Nervous”, “Trade Hearts” and “Trade Hearts (acoustic)”.
It’s easy to see why these loveable twins have gained popularity. We’re unsure what’s next for Max and Harvey, but we’re sure that it’s going to be big.
