Will actor Tom Hiddleston return for Marvel’s ‘Loki’ season 2?
One thing that all MCU fans have been demanding since Marvel announced that it was doing TV series was, well, more of them. While shows like WandaVision were meant to be a limited run, others such as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki had a lot more promise to them, a lot more things to explore. In the Loki season finale today, we learned that we are getting more of the God of Mischief.
That’s right. Loki is set to come back for season 2! We’re very happy for it because, uh, season 1 has left us feeling . . . bummed. It’s like the whole series was trying super, super hard to be smart, but then just sort of missed the landing. Granted, the premiere was awesome and “Journey Into Mystery” is a favorite. But the middle bit missed the mark and the finale did not stick the landing, in our opinion.
Of course with the news that Loki will be back for a season 2, people want to make sure Tom Hiddleston is primed for a return. After all, the actor, to many, is Loki, never mind the various variants that have been shown over the past season. So will the actor return as Loki? What can we expect from Loki season 2? Will other Marvel series get more seasons? Let’s take a look at what we know.
Is Tom Hiddleston set to return as Loki?
Short answer: yes. Out of three MCU TV series that have premiered on Disney+, Loki has been swirling around in rumors about a season 2 for quite awhile. Even prior to the series’ premiere, fans have been hearing rumors that season 2 for Loki has already been well in development. The actor, meanwhile, loves playing Loki. So if the offer was made, then it’s no surprise that he would jump on a chance to return.
Plus, Michael Waldron, who was the head writer for Loki, has been given an increased responsibility within the MCU. He wrote Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is directly connected to the events of Loki season. In addition, he’s been tapped to work on Kevin Feige’s Star Wars project as well. So the increased responsibility could have been a sign for more Loki.
Hopefully that means that since The Falcon and the Winter Soldier head writer Malcolm Spellman got tapped to write the fourth Captain America movie then maybe we’ll see either season 2 or live-action Captain America series. Either way, we’re getting more chances to see actor Tom Hiddleston in a role he excels in playing, which is a good thing. Now all they need to do is, uh, fix some of the flaws of the series.
Could we see more season renewals from other Marvel TV shows?
Honestly? It probably depends on the series. WandaVision always felt like it was going to be a limited series. It was designed to work that way. It doesn’t surprise us that’s what it ended up being. Loki, however, was clearly taking its time. We have to wonder if Waldron knew from the get-go that there would be more seasons of Loki so he felt like he could take his time when designing the story.
Other shows like the animated multiversal What If…? or the solo series for She-Hulk and Hawkeye could have more seasons. What If…? already has a season 2 in the works. So, conceivably, if solo characters aren’t getting their own movies? We could see more seasons of their shows. It all comes down to what the series are designed to do, where they fit in the MCU, and, well, we’ll have to see what else.
