Keep the kids entertained with these movies on Netflix
If you’re looking for a way to keep the kids entertained, check out the selection of kids’ movies on Netflix. Netflix’s huge library of movies & TV shows, including both Netflix originals & content from other studios, can make it easy to get lost.
Though the streaming service is fairly easy to navigate, we’re going to help you out with our suggestions for the best movies on Netflix for kids & parents to enjoy.
John Mulaney & The Sack Lunch Bunch (2019)
John Mulaney & The Sack Lunch Bunch is a children’s musical comedy starring mostly kid actors. The Netflix original was written by Mulaney himself with kids & adults in mind.
The musical features cameos from celebrities like David Byrne, André De Shields, Jake Gyllenhaal, Richard Kind, and Natasha Lyonne. The special was nominated for two Emmys in 2020.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)
Our next recommendation for the kids is another hilarious parody that the whole family can enjoy.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail is an iconic movie about the Knights of the Round Table & their search for the Holy Grail. The movie is really more of a series of connected comedy sketches, each one memorable on its own & as part of the whole story.
The comedy troupe Monty Python wrote & produced this low-budget movie, which has become a touchstone for comedy fans in the years to come. Monty Python and the Holy Grail is one of the most referenced & beloved movies of all time.
ParaNorman (2012)
Since it’s almost Halloween, we have to include something a little on the scary side that kids can still enjoy.
ParaNorman is about a kid named Norman with the ability to communicate with the dead. It features a fun animation style that sets it apart from the myriad of Disney Pixar productions we’re used to seeing on our screens (we’re not knocking it, but variety is a good thing, no?).
Spy Kids (2001)
Next up, we recommend the iconic Spy Kids! This Robert Rodriguez movie is available to watch on Netflix, as are the many sequels.
The movie is about a family of spies and focuses on the two children who act as the protagonists when they have to save the day by themselves. The movie is known for its special effects, which were quite impressive at the time of release. Fun fact: post-production took place at Skywalker Ranch!
Surf’s Up (2007)
Surf’s Up is another comedy for the kids to enjoy. It’s an animated mockumentary about surfing penguins that features an all-star cast, including Jeff Bridges, Zooey Deschanel, and Shia LeBeouf.
The movie was well-reviewed by critics & audiences, and was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards. It’s available to watch on Netflix, as is its sequel.
Zathura (2005)
Now, in honor of Kristen Stewart finally getting the recognition she deserves with the impending release of Spencer, we recommend that you & the kids check out Zathura.
Jon Favreau directed this 2005 adaptation of the children’s book of the same name. Aside from Kristen Stewart, the movie stars Jonah Bobo, Josh Hutcherson, and Dax Shepard.
The story follows two kids who play a board game that transports their house & all its occupants into space. This includes older sister Lisa, played by Kristen Stewart before her Twilight fame. Check this out if you enjoy Jumanji, as the book it’s based on was written by the same author. The dude loves a weird board game.
