Did director Matt Reeves spill some of the secrets about DC's upcoming 'The Batman'? Become the night to learn the details about the movie.

Did Matt Reeves just reveal secrets about ‘The Batman’?

One of the hottest movies in 2022 is going to be the Matt Reeves directed The Batman. Starring Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, the film promises to be a gritty dive into the early days of the Dark Knight. Of course, what Batman movie isn’t a little bit gritty, you know? No one wants a repeat of the “so bad I can’t look away from this trainwreck” that was Batman and Robin.

So what can we expect from Matt Reeves’ take on the character? The Batman released some footage at CinemaCon last Tuesday, which was praised by those that have seen it. The rest of us peons need to wait for a new trailer or something to get what we really need into our own eyeholes. Reeves has shared some details on the film, which also stars Zoe Kravitz & Jeffrey Wright.

So what did the director share about The Batman? How does Matt Reeves plan to leave an impact on the character? What can we expect from the film when it hits theatres in 2022? Let’s take a look at what we’ve learned so far about the film.

“Emotional”

At CinemaCon, Reeves revealed that The Batman was partially inspired by Frank Miller’s (ugh) Batman: Year One. He said, “”I felt that we’ve seen lots of origin stories. It seems things go further and further into fantasy, and I thought, well, one place we haven’t been is grounding it in the way that Year One does, to come right in to a young Batman, not being an origin tale, but referring to his origins and shaking him to his core.”

He added in the featurette, which showed quick atmospheric images mixed in with behind-the-scenes moments from The Batman, “You can have it be very practical, but I also thought it could be the most emotional Batman movie ever made.” So that’ll be interesting to see. Not that Batman isn’t an unfeeling character, but some of the more emotional aspects are usually discarded, which is a shame.

Pattinson, who appeared in the featurette, said, “For some reason, Batman has always stood out as one of the major characters of the 20th century, and so many people connect with it on such a deep level for so many different reasons. From the first conversation I had with Matt about it, I just knew that there was something radically different [here].”

Did we learn anything else?

Unsurprisingly, details about The Batman are being kept under wraps. Though, honestly, good for them keeping things about this film quiet. The Batman has suffered through multiple COVID-related production delays. It was honestly a bit of a relief when filming was announced as completed. If only because it meant that we were more than likely going to see the film happen.

In Aug. 2020, Matt Reeves said about The Batman that putting Bruce at the start of his career is “a criminological experiment. He’s trying to figure out what he can do to change this place. He’s seeing he’s not having any of the effect he wants to have. That’s when the murders start to happen . . . and it opens up a whole new world of corruption.” So that’s going to be great to explore.

In addition to Pattinson, Kravitz, and Wright, the cast also includes Andy Serkis, Paul Dano, and Colin Farrell. Needless to say, it’s a strong cast. Though it will be weird seeing the Penguin played by actually attractive man Colin Farrell. You just can’t Danny DeVito out of your head for that role. Talk about perfect casting.

The Batman will hit theatres on March 4, 2022. What are you most excited about in the Matt Reeves film?
