Do you dare to watch the most cursed short films ever made?

One of the best things about the internet is its folklore and how it’s survived for the most part to this day. We can look for the first memes (remember rage comics?), and horror clips to keep us from sleeping at night.

Before Gothtober ends, we wanted to remember some of the creepiest content on the internet. Some of us are still social distancing, but thaat doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate Halloween. The cat with hands by Robert Morgan

The next short film on our list is one which dates all the way back to 2009. What makes The cat with hands such a good horror film is its folk-style narrative. Together with the photograph and the costumes, this short film has an undeniable eerie vibe.

The cat with hands is less than four minutes long but it’s long enough to peak our interest. Another amazing thing about this is its unusual story. If you haven’t seen it yet, you should give it a try. This one is also available on YouTube.

Plastik by Valerio Mazzarella

Premiering in Screamfest 2018, Plastik shows a darker side to plastic surgeries which will probably make you want to stay away from the needle. Let’s be honest: there’s something nerve-wrecking about being anesthesized without any form of recollection from the procedure. This short film really exploits everything that’s scary about medical horror.

Plastik is scary, but it will also give you food for thought. How far would you go to reach perfection?

Dining room or there is nothing

Dining room or there is nothing is a one-minute video haunted the internet back when YouTube was just starting out. Like any other phenomenon on the internet, there was a whole mythology surrounding this short horror piece. It was rumored that the girl in this video would find you and drag you to hell.

While Dining room or there is nothing doesn’t have a narrative per se, what makes it work is how creepy every element of the video is.

Username:666

Another YouTube classic. Username:666 showed a mysterious channel that would appear after refreshing YouTube several times. In the very best of internet’s old fashion, the short film featured Maybe it’s harder to find this video scary today, but we felt like we couldn’t leave this internet piece out of a list of cursed short films.

We also love Username: 666 because of how well it’s maintained the aesthetic of internet in the early 2000s. We can totally remember this type of viral content being sent in chain emails, or shared on MSN. Those were the days.

We hope these short films can help you get in a spooky mood to receive Halloween this weekend. We didn’t want to just include short films with a great production, but also the type of content which gave us nightmares back in the first days of YouTube.
