‘The Crown’ after season 3: Who’s staying and who is leaving?

The Crown is a Netflix original drama that chronicles the life of Queen Elizabeth II from the 1940s to modern-day. The Crown has been a hit for Netflix and was nominated for ten Emmys, winning two. The series has a star-studded cast, including Claire Foy, John Lithgow, Olivia Colman, and Helena Bonham Carter.

In season three, The Crown had a different cast than the first two seasons. Netflix announced that season four is coming soon, and will see seasons five & six serving as the last additions. Here are the casting changes that the show will see in its upcoming seasons.

Who is coming back for season four?

Season four of The Crown is set to be released on November 15. All of the main cast will be returning to reprise their roles in season four. This includes Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II, Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip, Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles, Erin Doherty as Princess Anne, and Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret.

Both Colman & Carter were nominated for Emmys for their performances in season three of The Crown. Season four will see a few additional faces to the cast. Gillian Anderson will appear as the first female prime minister of the UK, Margaret Thatcher. The relationship between Queen Elizabeth II & Thatcher should be an important dynamic for season four.

Emma Corrin has been cast as Princess Diana and will be making her first appearance in season four. Tom Byrne will also join the cast as Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, who is currently caught in a scandal due to his involvement in Jeffrey Epstein’s criminal history.

New cast in seasons five & six

Season five will also have a new cast, and season six has been confirmed to be the final season of The Crown. Imelda Staunton, who played Dolores Umbridge in the Harry Potter films, will be taking over the role of Queen Elizabeth II.

Princess Margaret will be played by Lesley Manville in seasons five & six while Elizabeth Debicki will also be taking over the role of Princess Diana for season five. The other cast members who will take over the other roles have not yet been announced, nor new characters who could appear, such as Prince Harry or Prince William.

The Crown features some of the UK’s best actors & actresses in this series. Season four looks to continue the run of success that The Crown has seen and to set up the final chapters in an intriguing manner.
