Get ready for the holidays with the best Christmas movies on Netflix

The hot temps of summer are still lingering, but already, the thoughts of the upcoming holiday season are upon us. These days, you can find just about every Christmas movie imaginable on streaming platforms such as Netflix, and it’s not just during December – it’s all year round.

This article is for those of us who like to revel in the holiday spirit for months on end. Whether you’re into modern films or the oldies, Netflix, in particular, has it all! When you’re feeling festive & jolly, check out these popular movies and add them to your annual list!

The Christmas Chronicles

The Netflix Original, The Christmas Chronicles, is a film with a familiar storyline but a unique spin. The story follows siblings Kate & Teddy Pierce. Left to spend Christmas Eve with one another, they hatch a plan to catch Santa Claus on camera.

Doubting their plan will actually work, Kate & Teddy are not prepared for the journey they embark on instead. Starring Kurt Russell, Darby Camp, and Judah Lewis, The Christmas Chronicles is a film for the whole family to enjoy and watch for years to come.

Holidate

Twenty-something Sloane (Emma Roberts) is sick & tired of being single during the holidays, and she’s not the only one. When she meets a man named Jackson (Luke Bracey), they decide to become each other’s plus-ones all year long. With no strings attached, they decide to meet up every holiday, pretend they’re together, and fool everyone around them.

As we know, romantic comedies don’t usually end tied up in a pretty red bow. Sloane & Jackson develop feelings for each other, which makes the situation messy and unexpected. For those of us who crave a good romantic story, Holidate is the perfect movie to unwind to and laugh at along the way.

White Christmas

After Bob Wallace (Bing Crosby) and Phil Davis (Danny Kaye) are discharged from World War II, they team up together as a successful song & dance act.

When Wallace eyes two beautiful sisters named Betty (Rosemary Clooney) and Judy Haynes (Vera-Ellen), he tries to play matchmaker for his buddy, Davis. Because Betty & Judy are song & dance performers themselves, the men decide to travel to watch their show at a lodge.

They don’t know that the location is owned by their old General, Thomas F. Waverly (Dean Jagger), which opens up a can of worms they weren’t expecting. Michael Curtiz’s White Christmas is one of the most iconic Christmas movies of all time and has been ever since its release in 1954.

Klaus

Dubbed as an adventure-comedy, the 2019 film Klaus is an animated story filled with life lessons and a fantastic storyline. The film follows a hopeless postal academy student named Jesper (Jason Schwartzman), who lives on a miserable island above the Arctic Circle.

The locals despise one another, and Jesper has had enough of their insults & complaints. Before he decides to give up his occupation, he meets a caring woman named Alva (Rashida Jones).

Upon finding the new companionship, he stumbles upon a loner named Klaus (J.K. Simmons), who is holed up in his cabin with many handmade toys. Their budding friendship allows both men to find the meaning of life once again while spreading it to those around them.

Klaus is a magical film that follows the lore of Santa Klaus and the journey to find happiness once again.

Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey

In 2020, director David E. Talbert released Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey as a partnership with Netflix. Starring Forest Whitaker, Anika Noni Rose, Keegan-Michael Key, and Hugh Bonneville, the film is set in the fictional town of Cobbleton, where a legendary toymaker named Jeronicus Jangle (Whitaker) resides.

Jangle is a brilliant inventor whose creations burst with character and color, and his apprentice Gustafson (Key) takes notice.

Gustafson steals one of his creations and goes off on his own. Years later, when Gustafson realized Jangle has a hidden gem up his sleeve, he resorts back to his old sneaky ways once again. It’s up to Jangle’s granddaughter Journey (Madalen Mills) to stop him once and for all.

Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey is filled with entertaining musical scenes and show-stopping performances by the entire cast; it’s safe to say you’ll need this timeless Christmas classic on your movie list for years to come.
