‘Riverdale’ theory: Will Dylan and Cole Sprouse reunite on the show?
Out of all the names for the Core Four on Riverdale, back when casting was announced, the one people were most likely to recognize was Cole Sprouse. For millennials (and parts of Gen Z), twin brothers Dylan and Cole Sprouse were the leads of The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody: On Deck. Dylan and Cole Sprouse took a break from acting to attend college, and Riverdale marked Cole’s return to TV.
One thing people have been dying for, so to speak, was to see the Sprouse brothers reunited on television again, especially Riverdale. Dylan Sprouse has returned to acting as well, appearing in short films and features alike. So isn’t now a good time to reunite the twins on Riverdale?
Believe it or not, in comics, Jughead Jones has an identical cousin named Souphead. Many fans believed that if Jughead was well and truly killed off in season four, then Souphead (played by Cole Sprouse) would have been brought in. As it has worked out with Jughead amongst the living, introducing Souphead will be an interesting way to explore the Jones family more.
Plus it would be interesting to see just how things will be explained with Jughead and Souphead’s identical features. With Skeet Ulrich leaving the series, bringing on Dylan Sprouse briefly, would be an interesting way to fill that Jones void.
Seeing as how Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is set in the same universe as Riverdale, we think that sooner or later magic is going to work its way on the series in some capacity. As fans remember from CAOS Part Two, mandrakes make an identical doppelganger of a person. And that would be a fun way to bring both magic and Dylan Sprouse onto the series.
Sprouse could be the mandrake, however briefly, and we can see just how Jughead’s life may or may not be ruined by the news of the existence of magic. Let’s also be real here, it probably wouldn’t be the weirdest thing on Riverdale.
Riverdale, of course, can just go full ham and have Dylan Sprouse play a secret twin to Jughead that for whatever reason his parents gave up for adoption. It’s the kind of soap opera-ish thing that Riverdale would do. And it would add a new layer of WTF in the various odd choices for the Jones family.
Who knows? Maybe it could be a fakeout. And it’s just a mask worn by someone else to make Jughead think he has a secret twin. Go full on Batwoman with tearing off faces to reveal the truth. Just go full ham.
