As we countdown to the premiere of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny on June 30th, it’s the perfect moment to immerse ourselves in the daring escapades of Indiana Jones that preceded this latest adventure. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered on where you can stream all of these action-packed treasures!

Let’s take a look at the trailer and see what we make of it.

Back To Basics

The phenomenon that is Indiana Jones was born over forty years ago in 1981, with Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. Masterfully directed by Steven Spielberg and intricately penned by Lawrence Kasdan, this film introduced us to the unforgettable, hunky yet mysteriously reticent Harrison Ford, portraying the adventurous professor Indiana Jones.

His mission? To retrieve the fabled Ark of the Covenant before it lands in the wrong hands, with the help of his ex-flame Marion, played by the charming Karen Allen.

This film, an exhilarating blend of action, romance, and sheer adventure, was an instant hit, setting the stage for more installments including Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in 1984 featuring a young Ke Huy Quan and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in 1989 with the legendary Sean Connery as Indy’s father.

Despite the less favorable reviews of the 2008 installment, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the passion for this franchise remained unwavering, paving the way for the newest adventure, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

The classic

In The Dial of Destiny, the trailer shows Indy once again facing off against the Nazis in a race to secure a mysterious artifact, this time without Spielberg at the helm. Enter James Mangold, the visionary director behind Logan, taking over the reins.

In this epic adventure set in 1969, we see Indy drawn back into the world of archaeological intrigue by Helena Shaw (Phoebe Waller-Bridge), the goddaughter of his former associate Basil Shaw (Toby Jones). Two decades prior, Indy and Basil had prevented the enigmatic Antikythera dial from falling into Nazi hands. The dial is now once again in peril, with Indy and Helena making it their mission to prevent its misuse.

Director James Mangold pulled from both contemporary and studio-era classics for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. It’s a fitting final lap for Harrison Ford’s iconic character, with ample inspiration drawn from Spielberg’s groundbreaking work on Raiders of the Lost Ark.

New crafts

When it came to shaping the character of Helena, Mangold turned to the 1940s world of director Preston Sturges. Influenced by Barbara Stanwyck’s character in The Lady Eve, Helena, portrayed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge of Fleabag fame, is envisaged as a conwoman archaeologist with an eye for fame and fortune more than the safekeeping of precious artifacts.

This modern, ambitious character provides a wonderful foil to Indy’s old-school idealism. Their chemistry promises to deliver quick-witted banter and unexpected twists. Waller-Bridge and Mangold engaged in deep discussions about Helena’s character arc, crafting her as the seemingly innocent girl-next-door who reveals a more complex, ambitious, and somewhat cynical side.

As Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny readies to hit theaters on June 30, we’re brimming with anticipation. What new adventures await us in the ageless saga of Indiana Jones? Will the introduction of new characters in the trailer breathe fresh life into this beloved franchise? Only time will tell, so mark your calendars and get ready to embark on another thrilling journey with Indy.
