‘The Ellen Degeneres Show’ may get cancelled: Replacement show ideas
We’ve been wondering lately with the negative press and terrible stories floating around about Ellen DeGeneres, how long will it be before The Ellen DeGeneres Show is cancelled? The daytime talk show has long hinged on Ellen’s image as positive, peppy, and kind. Yet, from the stories people are sharing on the internet, she’s allegedly the opposite IRL.
If The Ellen DeGeneres Show gets cancelled, then someone will have to take over the timeslot. More importantly, someone would need to take the void left behind by Ellen. So who would be a good replacement here? Who would be able to accomplish a show in the tricky world of daytime talk?
Here are some suggestions.
Jenna Marbles
YouTuber Jenna Marbles has taken a step back from her channel. Still, the famed YouTuber would be actually pretty ideal for a talk show. She has a recognizable brand and a ton of fans. Jenna Marbles is one of the most recognizable YouTubers out there. And a lot of lesser-known people from the platform have transitioned to television with successful careers.
Logically, it would make sense. Plus the majority of daytime talk is focused on an older set of people. So it would make sense to have one focused on a younger audience, right? At least, it would with an Ellen DeGeneres Show void in the schedule. Jenna Marbles is funny, charming, weird, and genuine. It’ll translate well to a talk show.
Lil Nas X
Lil Nas X made huge waves with “Old Town Road”, which will remain in your head forever if you hear it once. He also has a great media presence and is one of the celebrities you don’t hear horrible stories about online. Lil Nas X is a bit of nerd, but a charming one with a big personality. While he would be on the younger sider for having his own daytime talk show, it would draw some big numbers
In the music sphere, Kelly Clarkson made a great transition to her own daytime gig and seems to have been enjoying herself. Daytime television needs an injection of younger blood so to speak to keep it going. It’s an off the wall choice for replacement of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, but one that could be unexpectedly interesting.
Michelle Khare
Michelle Khare is another YouTuber and one that would be lesser-known than say Jenna Marbles. Khare recently made her break into streaming television as the host of HBO Max’s Karma. In addition to her television experience, Khare’s YouTube channel has the most television like the structure with her “Challenge Accepted” series, where she goes out to try different jobs so to speak.
Khare would be a great talk show host for several reason. 1) She already has the experience of hosting a show, 2) She has a great presence, 3) She has the skill of interviewing people, and 4) She also has a realness to her that would translate well to television. While her name is not a big name, the right branding could definitely give her a great platform to build a talk show brand.
No one would really know to expect from her.
Larry Wilmore
Larry Wilmore had his own show on Comedy Central for two years, The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore. It was a replacement for The Colbert Report after Stephen Colbert nabbed The Late Show hosting gig. Wilmore’s series was really great and dove into a lot of real issues at the time. Honestly, if it was still on today, it probably would have done a lot of good right now.
Wilmore is steady, charming, funny, and personable on camera. He’s not afraid to dive into serious issues, which could bring something a little more substantive to daytime talkshow programming, which is still largely dismissed as fluff.
