Is the Queen really that upset about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry naming their newborn daughter Lilibet Diana? Spilled tea? We'll clean it up.

Why is Queen Elizabeth upset with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle now?

It is officially becoming a royal web of lies. Even worse? We are not sure who’s at fault here. If you’re struggling to figure out what exactly were talking about, we are of course referring to the ongoing dispute between Meghan Markle & Prince Harry and the royal family, who now appear to have a new gripe as it pertains to the once royal couple who withdrew from their senior roles within the royal family in 2020.

The latest? Well, as many of you know, Prince Harry & Meghan Markle recently gave birth to their second child, daughter Lilibet Diana, who was born last Friday. In what appeared as an olive branch, Prince Harry & Meghan Markle named their daughter to honor both Prince Harry’s grandmother, the queen, as well as his late mother, Princess Diana. On paper it seems like a truce, but we are learning that it’s much more than that.

Page Six is reporting that the queen is seemingly furious over the decision of Meghan Markle & Prince Harry naming their daughter after her, claiming that she never gave them permission to use her name. Markle & Harry, however, have said otherwise. Just who is telling the truth here? Must this royal feud continue over something as simple as the name of a baby? Let’s look at all the details and see what we can dig up.

Lilibet Diana

The royal family has seemingly grown a little larger this past week after Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle announced the birth of their second child, daughter Lilibet Diana. “Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital,” The couple announced in a joint statement last Sunday.

The Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry even went as far as to explain how the queen was their first call upon the birth of baby Lilibet Diana, claiming that the queen gave them her blessing to use her childhood name. It was a moment that seemed tender, mending the relationship that felt fractured over these past few months. However, like royalty itself, nothing is as it appears behind closed doors.

Perhaps this baby naming incident is just another branch that the royal family can hang their hat of anger on regarding Markle, given the infamous “Megxit” incident of 2020 as well as her interview with Oprah last March, an interview in which Markle disclosed a lot of personal feelings regarding her treatment by the royal family. Now, after this latest story, it appears that things are only ramping up.

The Queen grows angry

BBC royal correspondent Jonny Dymond reported on the broadcaster’s flagship Radio 4 “Today” program that the monarch was “never asked” her opinion on her grandson’s decision to name their second child after her.

“Palace source tells BBC that the Queen was not asked by Meghan and Harry over the use of her childhood nickname; reports suggested Harry had sought permission from Queen to call newborn ‘Lilibet’; but Palace source says the Queen was ‘never asked’,” Dymond tweeted out in a statement. However, sources close to the royal couple confirm the queen’s support of the name, and how legal action may be taken upon the BBC.

“The Duke spoke with his family in advance of the announcement, in fact his grandmother was the first family member he called. During that conversation, he shared their hope of naming their daughter Lilibet in her honor. Had she not been supportive, they would not have used the name,” a Sussex source told Page Six.
