Netflix Peter Rice hire reshape ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ movies?

Variety reports that Netflix has hired former Disney executive Peter Rice, a move that could reshape the streaming giant’s approach to its expanding movie slate.

The article suggests the hire may trigger an internal debate about the future of movies at the company, contrasting Rice’s background in traditional studio filmmaking with Netflix’s data-driven model.

“The profile of what a Hollywood executive is — the role, the methods, the priorities — is now in the midst of a transformation,” Variety writes, noting that the old definition of a successful studio executive centered on commercial hits and acclaimed films.

The piece frames the appointment as part of a broader industry shift, where the skills and priorities once prized in legacy studio roles are being redefined inside streaming companies.
