Did you see Lili Reinhart's Instagram story? Reinhart just revealed that she was impersonated in a very public way. Here's everything about the scandal.

Is Lili Reinhart being impersonated? See her Instagram statement

Every celebrity has at least a couple of super-fans, but a celebrity getting impersonated? And people actually believing it? Now that’s not something we see every day. Read all about Lili Reinhart being impersonated, and her subsequent Instagram statement on the bizarre event.

The strange mix-up

On Friday, Seventeen Magazine announced they had accidentally released an interview with Lili Reinhart . . . that wasn’t actually with Lili Reinhart. Apparently, someone had impersonated her and her publicist.

The statement read: “Today, we briefly published a story with information we were led to believe was from Lili Reinhart. However, it was brought to our attention that the person who contacted us was, in fact, an impersonator and had no connection to the Riverdale star.”

The statement concluded: “We want to sincerely apologize to Lili and her fans for this unfortunate situation. We reacted swiftly by removing the story from our site and regret the erroneous reporting.”

Lili Reinhart’s thoughts on the incident

Lili Reinhart didn’t seem too offended or scared by the incident, but was admittedly confused. Shortly after Seventeen’s statement, Reinhart shared a photo on her Instagram Stories. “For some bizarre reason”, she wrote, “someone impersonated me in an interview with Seventeen. Nothing inappropriate was said, but those were not my words and I wanted to address it.”

More comments on the incident

Lucas Hill-Paul, the author of the interview in question also commented on the event, writing on Twitter: “It’s been brought to my attention that the interview I shared with Lili Reinhart was fake, and someone has been impersonating Lili and her publicist. Obviously, I’m embarrassed and quite disturbed, and sincerely apologise to anyone who was misled by the article.”

He continued: “Unfortunately I am tweeting at 3am in the UK (overnight reporter), and the story can’t be pulled until we go through the correct legal procedure. I can assure you I will do my best to ensure the matter is resolved as soon as possible, though.”

He concluded: “Thanks for all the kind words. It’s clearly been a strange day for Riverdale fans and I can only hope my apology eventually reaches Lili herself. I’m very sorry someone thought to do this to her, but it’s clear they’re in the tiny minority of those who just want to watch a fun show.”

Who is Lili Reinhart?

Lili Reinhart was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and began to love dancing, acting, and singing at the age of ten. She moved to Los Angeles at eighteen to pursue acting – though she faced a lot of rejection at first.

She appeared in small parts on shows like Scientiastic! (2010), and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2011). She also starred in films, like Lilith (2011), Not Waving But Drowning (2012), The Kings of Summer (2013), and Gibsonburg (2013).

Reinhart’s career really took off when, on February 9th, 2016, she was cast as Betty Cooper in Riverdale, described as the “sweet, studious, eager-to-please and wholesome with a huge crush on her longtime best friend, Archie”. Upon its release, the show was a huge success, and was recently renewed for a fifth season.

In addition to her film and TV work, Reinhart has worked with multiple other brands. In October of 2019, Reinhart was announced as an ambassador for American Express. She also became a spokesperson and ambassador for CoverGirl shortly after.

Reinhart is a woman of many talents, and in September 2020, she released a book of poetry titled Swimming Lessons: Poems, which delves into themes of “young love, anxiety, depression, fame, and heartbreak”. The book impressively debuted as no. 2 on the The New York Times Bestseller list for paperback trade fiction.
