‘Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life’: Will we see a reunion on ‘Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’?
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel will return for its fourth season. The latest season from Gilmore Girls: A Year In Life creator Amy Sherman-Palladino is set to debut later this year. The season couldn’t film in 2020 due to COVID. The series follows Midge Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan), a former housewife who decides to pursue a career in stand-up comedy during the late 1950s and the early 1960s.
A refresher about what happened in the season 3 finale of the Marvelous Mrs Maisel before we dive into the exciting news. Midge was dropped from Shy Baldwin’s (Leroy McClain) after making an ill advised gay joke about the closeted musician while opening for him. Needless to say, after touring with Shy, things are not looking great for Midge’s stand-up career going forward.
Now, we’ve seen some familiar Gilmore Girls faces appear. Some even recently seen in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, such as Milo Ventimiglia, are set to make an appearance in Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 4. Now, however, a Gilmore Girls mainstay (who definitely deserved some sort of award after A Year in Life) is also appearing on The Marvelous Mrs Maisel for season 4.
Kelly Bishop!
Kelly Bishop, best known for her role as Emily Gilmore, will guest star on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 4. Bishop last stepped in the role of Emily Gilmore back in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, which was a great performance. Honestly, she deserves an award for how she carried that show on her back for those four long episodes.
Bishop’s role is being kept close to the vest. So whether she’s playing a wholly original character or someone from the actual period of history remains unknown, but what we do know is that she’s a guest starring in the season. (Maybe even the same episode as Milo Ventimiglia?) The fact that Bishop is appearing on an Amy Sherman-Palladino show is not that surprising though.
This marks a third Sherman-Palladino show that Bishop has appeared on. She’s, of course, best known for Gilmore Girls, but she had a role in the short-lived and criminally underrated Bunheads as well. We’re so curious about who Bishop will play in the series though.
We don’t know about Bishop’s character . . .
Daniel Palladino did, however, let something slip about Milo Ventimiglia’s character though. He said, “It’s actually a very different thing we’re doing with him. We needed someone of his caliber and his handsomeness, so we asked Milo to do it. But you have to see it in the context.” Could he be a new love interest for Midge Maisel? That would be interesting to see.
The series stars Rachel Brosnahan, Alex Borstein, Tony Shalhoub, Marin Hinkle, Michael Zegen, Kevin Pollak, Caroline Aaron, and Jane Lynch. We’re excited to see where exactly season 4 will take us in terms of Midge’s character since it doesn’t look super great for her career right now. Though, honestly, Midge has been a lot in the series lately, so maybe she needed the bit of reality.
Either way, The Marvelous Mrs Maisel season 4 is currently in production, shooting all around New York. We’re guessing season 4 will drop either late in 2021 or early 2022, which will be exciting to see!
