Rude or nude: Why does Katherine Heigl enjoy being the villain?
Are you ready for some 2000s nostalgia mixed with a dash of drama? Katherine Heigl, the powerhouse actress, and one of our favorite former Grey’s Anatomy stars, is getting candid about how she’s okay with being labeled the “villain.” Who knew? Or better yet, who nude?
The buzz around social media doesn’t seem to let too much get past them, and it’s about time we got down to the nitty-gritty before too much gets lost in translation.
Real talk
So, what’s the tea? In a recent Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series, Heigl had an unfiltered chat with her old Grey’s Anatomy co-star, Ellen Pompeo. She spoke out about how she became the “bad guy” back in the early 2000s. Heigl famously questioned her role in “Knocked Up” and later withdrew her name from Emmy consideration, criticizing the working conditions on Grey’s.
Katherine told Ellen, “I felt so strongly that I also got a megaphone out on my soapbox.” Talk about passion, right? But hey, the strong reaction from the public was not what she had expected. To think that any nude photos were to come after that is a well-forgiven fallacy, yet what did the coming year say?
People were not happy. But Heigl, who had been in “people-pleasing mode” for most of her career, found it strange to displease so many. As she puts it, “I had some things to say, and I didn’t think I was going to get such a strong reaction.”
But that’s not all. This whole scenario pushed Katherine into embracing her role as the villain. She even mimicked a villain-like gesture with her hands and chuckled about it with Pompeo.
Changing tides
Now, let’s fast forward to the present. The world is changing, and so are opinions. Ellen Pompeo, Heigl’s former co-star, spilled the beans last year about how Katherine’s comments on their workplace were “ballsy” and true.
Yes, you heard it right! Pompeo said on her “Tell Me” podcast, “I remember Heigl said something on a talk show about the insane hours we were working, but she was 100% right — and had she said that today she’d be a complete hero.” A hero, indeed!
Katherine Heigl did not hold back. She’s been frank about how being labeled “difficult” impacted her career and mental health. She told The Washington Post, “What is your definition of difficult? Somebody with an opinion that you don’t like?” If that isn’t a nude truth, we don’t know what else she is asking for!
And guess what? Heigl is back in the game with various projects including Netflix’s “Firefly Lane” working title.
Shonda Rhimes, the creator of Grey’s Anatomy, which, by the way, is the longest-running medical drama in TV history (yep, beating ER), has confirmed that Heigl’s character is not making a comeback. But don’t worry, Heigl fans, this queen has a lot going on! Does that mean nude photos are in the future? Only she has the power to decide that.
Comeback queen?
Katherine Heigl’s metamorphosis from the “bad guy” to someone who speaks her truth is a journey we can all learn from. And with Grey’s Anatomy still going strong with a whopping 19 seasons, the future’s looking pretty bright for this brilliant actress.
So, what’s next for Katherine Heigl? Can we expect her to continue speaking out with honesty and passion, or has she got some new surprises up her sleeve? Keep your eyes peeled, and in the meantime, why not rewatch some “Grey’s Anatomy”? And, who knows, maybe the stars will align for a future Heigl-Pompeo reunion. Are you rooting for that too?
