Everything we know about Jordan Peele’s ‘Hunters’
As we wait around to watch Jordan Peele’s Us get snubbed by awards, which no surprise since awards shows are a joke, Peele gave us a gift for the start of 2020. The horror director/producer has been working on a new show for Amazon Prime, and the trailer for Hunters (known in production as The Hunt) just dropped on Peele’s Twitter January 3rd.
The new action-drama focuses on a group of Nazi hunters in 1977 NYC working to bring down a network of Nazis trying to build the Fourth Reich. Led by Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson & The Olympians) and Al Pacino (The Irishman), the show is set for a February release date.
We went underground and dug up the dish on these hunters coming to our screens next month. There’s a lot to unpack regarding the latest project from Peele.
Nazis? In New York? Time for revenge.
The main plot of Hunters is Logan Lerman’s Jonah joins this guild of Nazi hunters after one kills his grandmother in an apparent home robbery. Invited by Al Pacino’s Meyer Offerman, it’s revealed that this specific group of hunters was created by Jonah’s grandmother and Meyer.
As the team works together to take down the Fourth Reich, a group of NYPD officers starts investigating these murders of the Nazis. While no one’s saying getting revenge on Nazis is a bad thing, the cops want to bring the Nazis in through proper channels, rather than outright murdering them.
Pacino and the streaming boom
Al Pacino is making it clear he sees something in the future of streaming. Between the acclaimed Netflix film The Irishman and this project, Pacino is sticking with streaming services. Lerman, on the other hand, is new to the world of streaming.
Joining the two as supporting cast is Jerrika Hinton (Grey’s Anatomy), Greg Austin (Class), Dylan Baker (Happiness), Tiffany Boone (Beautiful Creatures), and Caleb Emery (Good Girls).
Jordan Peele’s giving a new person a voice
David Weil has never gone behind the scenes before on TV, but that didn’t stop Peele from helping get Weil’s project off the ground. In his first time as showrunner, Weil is executive producing Hunters as well as writing three episodes in its debut season. Supporting Weil in the writer’s room are Ryan Maldonado (Chicago P.D.), Nikki Toscano (Bates Motel), and Eduardo Javier Canto (Conviction).
Going behind the camera in the director’s chair are Nelson McCormick (Prison Break), Wayne Yip (Doctor Who), and Dennie Gordon (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan). Supporting Peele and Weil as executive producers are also Toscano, Win Rosenfeld (BlacKkKlansman), and Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (American Horror Story).
Nazis are romantic, right?
While technically premiering a week after Valentine’s Day, it’s the perfect excuse to still get your significant other to sit down and start a new series with you. Nothing more romantic than a show about killing Nazis. Hunters will hit Amazon on Friday, February 21st, 2020.
