New ‘Among Us’ map inspiration: Get to know the PC game ‘Henry Stickmin’
Among Us was the breakthrough mobile/PC game of 2020, quickly gaining popularity after numerous gaming influencers introduced it to a largely stuck-at-home audience last year. The space-based multiplayer game has become a favorite pastime for many during the ongoing pandemic.
With growing mass appeal, InnerSloth – the creators of Among Us – were struck with the challenge of enhancing the already-successful game to keep passionate gamers satisfied.
At first, there were rumors of Among Us 2, the ultimate sequel to the original game. However, those plans had been canceled in exchange for focusing their efforts in fixing bugs and including a brand-new map – the Airship.
The Airship
Unveiled at The Game Awards 2020, the new map in Among Us was teased in form of a short video clip. The Airship is the fourth map in the multiplatform social deduction game, yet-to-release in addition to the existing Among Us maps like The Skeld, Mira HQ, and Polus.
Set for an “early 2021” release, The Airship is fascinating to curious gamers for various reasons. For one, the map is based on Infiltrating the Airship from InnerSloth’s Henry Stickmin PC game collection.
Another connection between both the games had been drawn when the Among Us fans realized the voice narrator in the Airship’s trailer belonged to Marcus Bromander aka Reginald Copperbottom from Toppat Clan Airship.
Henry Stickman series
Henry Stickmin is a series of choose-your-own-path PC games, created by Puffballs United and developed by InnerSloth. The game involves “control of protagonist character assigned special missions” in the form of separate games like Breaking the Bank (2008), Escaping the Prison (2010), Stealing the Diamond (2011), Infiltrating the Airship (2013), Fleeing the Complex (2015), and Completing the Mission (2020).
The series follows the namesake character, Henry Stickmin, on various exciting adventures which include a narrative of action, comedy, danger, and more; successfully engrossing the gamers in its ever-changing storyline. In the PC game series that preceded Among Us, the player has the ability to choose the events and/or endings to the character by using the game function of point-&-click.
The Henry Stickmin series offers two versions: the legacy series and The Henry Stickmin Collection, the latter – released on August 7th, 2020 – features remastered versions of the original games and a new addition, Completing the Mission.
Infiltrating the Airship
Originally released in 2013, Infiltrating the Airship is the fourth PC installment & third episode in the Henry Stickmin game series, now serving as the basis for the new Among Us map in development.
According to Puffballs United, Henry Stickmin’s storyline continues in Infiltrating the Airship in the following manner: “Henry’s been captured by the government and can wipe away his debt by doing them a favor. The Toppat Clan, a group of international thieves, has been a thorn in their side for some time. They’re sending you [the player] in to bring them down.”
Along with opposing factions of the “Government” & the “Toppat Clan”, the series’ iconic characters like Charles Calvin, Reginald Copperbottom, and the Right Hand Man make their first appearances in Airship.
According to Wiki, “the Toppat Clan Airship, also known as TC Airship or just Airship, is a huge [red] flying airship owned by the Toppat Clan. It’s their primary base, where they keep any and all evidence, top secret documents, and their infamous top hats.” Infiltrating the Airship is claimed to have four different endings and one fake ending.
Should you play Henry Stickmin?
As innovative as the PC game series Henry Stickmin had been, it didn’t achieve the same fame & recognition as its successor, Among Us. Yet, the Henry Stickmin series has its own list of accolades.
While GameCrate called it the “indie game of the month”, famous YouTuber & PC gamer, Markiplier, reviewed the game favorably with comments like “the adventures of Henry Stickmin never end with his antics! This choose-your-own adventure/demise series had more laughs than I could count. Definitely worth your time!”
