All the times Billy Porter proved he’s the fashionista of the ‘Pose’ cast

Billy Porter has been serving us jaw-dropping lewks even before he claimed his role as Pray Tell on the hit drama Pose. He’s shown his versatility not only in his stunning ensembles but in the roles he can slip into, from a drag queen in Kinky Boots to the fabulous emcee of the underground ballroom world in Pose for which he won a groundbreaking Emmy. 

Billy has never shied away from the outrageous or the unconventional, in fact, those are his staples. Yet his outfits have always been meticulously curated and gorgeous so we know it isn’t all about the wow factor — it’s also about taste.

Tuxedo gown 

This gorgeous black ballroom gown was designed to pay homage to Hector Xtravaganza when he wore a tulle skirt version. Xtravaganza was the father of the first mostly Latinx ballroom house in New York City. 

Pink jeweled cape

This iconic look was a major turning point for Billy in his fashion expression as the positive attention the cape brought emboldened Billy to push the status quo even further. 

Tasseled blue suit

Billy wore this shining blue suit to the Grammys as it was inspired by Billie Eilish’s mesh “beekeeper hat” which hid her face. Billy wanted to do the same thing but the hat was also motorized to part the fringe and dramatically reveal the star’s glittery blue makeup. 

Gender-fluid uterus suit

Porter wore this gender-fluid suit as a nod to Elizabethan couture. The train attached his suit was also designed to resemble a uterus as a sly comment about the attack on women’s reproductive rights. 

Pearl sweater

Billy wore this fabulous sweater dripping with pearls to a fashion runway show and completed the look with matching earrings. 

Rainbow pride gown 

Billy wore this stunning rainbow gown to WorldPride NYC to celebrate diversity and wowed the crowd. 

Sun God ensemble

Billy came dressed to the Met Gala in a dazzling jeweled catsuit complete with ten-foot wings, a twenty-four karat gold headpiece, and gold-leaf shoes. Billy took the gala’s theme of “camp” and went ahead with it full steam, even making his entrance on a litter carried by six men.
