BTS stunned us on the 2020 AMAs red carpet: See the hot looks yourself
BTS brought their polished stage command to the 2020 American Music Awards, and the performance still reads as a clean snapshot of how the group handled a global moment with precision and restraint. They arrived on the red carpet in coordinated white shirts and black trousers that signaled unity while letting individual tailoring do the talking.
Their looks
The seven members wore custom button-downs from LEMETEQUE, each cut with a distinct detail such as an extended cuff, a banded collar, or contrast stitching. The shirts kept the overall silhouette simple yet allowed the eye to register the small differences that marked each performer. On the brand’s Instagram, the designer noted the honor of creating the pieces exclusively for BTS and shared footage of the group moving through the performance in those shirts. The same label later supplied 1970s-inspired shirts for a Good Morning America appearance, again posting a short clip that highlighted the color shift from the AMAs look. During the show itself the group performed “Dynamite” and “Life Goes On,” and they collected two awards: Favorite Duo or Group – Pop/Rock and Favorite Social Artist.
New release
Two days before the AMAs, BTS issued the eight-track album BE. The project contained the first song the members had released entirely in English, “Dynamite,” alongside the Korean-language title track “Life Goes On.” On September 23, 2020, the group delivered a virtual address at the 75th United Nations General Assembly, invited by South Korea’s Group of Friends of Solidarity for Global Health Security. They spoke about the personal and professional adjustments forced by the pandemic, the value of staying connected through music, and the need to protect mental health. Each member closed the remarks by repeating the phrase “Life goes on,” a direct reference to the new single.
Past accomplishments
Earlier in 2020 the group had released Map of the Soul: 7, which sold more than 4.1 million copies in South Korea within nine days and became the first album certified quadruple million in the country. The release was also named the world’s best-selling album of the year, extending BTS’s existing record as South Korea’s top-selling act.
Military Service and Group Hiatus
In 2022 the members announced an indefinite pause on full-group activities so each could complete mandatory military service. All seven finished their enlistments by mid-2025, closing the chapter that had kept the complete lineup off stages together for several years.
2026 Reunion and Comeback
Early the following year the group returned with a free concert in Seoul that drew tens of thousands of fans. March 2026 brought the new album Arirang, followed by the launch of a 79-date world tour spanning 34 cities beginning in April.
Solo Projects During Hiatus
While the full roster was on hold, each member issued solo albums, singles, and tours. Jimin and several others also made notable appearances in fashion campaigns and editorial shoots, keeping individual visibility high even as group schedules stayed quiet.
Ongoing Legacy and Fan Impact
Guinness records continue to list BTS as South Korea’s best-selling act. The 2026 tour has already been described by organizers as record-breaking in scale, and ARMY engagement has remained steady through streaming numbers, fan projects, and the Seoul reunion show.
The 2020 AMAs appearance now sits as one fixed point on a longer timeline that includes both the 2022–2025 service period and the 2026 return. The white shirts and the UN speech remain part of the documented record, while the later chapters show how the group managed a required break and resumed work at full strength.
