As it stands today, Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello are still together, so it’s looking like their love has overcome any hate they’ve received from trolls. Just two days ago, they posted pictures of what their life in Miami has been like and they seem to be really happy together.
The couple has been quarantining together, packing on the PDA, and even answering questions from fans about confusing situations . . . like the time they were walking like zombies in their neighborhood.
That odd zombie walk
In March 2020, Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello were photographed holding hands and walking through the neighborhood at an extremely slow pace. It was pretty strange to see because normally when people go for walks, they take brisker strides.
Shawn Mendes later came forward to explain the situation saying that they were taking their time to meditate in the moment because everything was just beginning to go a little bit crazy in life with the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic.
The coverup rumor
Media outlets including PerezHilton.com (and several others) have poked at the idea that the relationship between Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello is totally fake. Rumor has it she’s only around to be his “coverup” girlfriend. He’s addressed those harsh rumors revealing that it actually makes him very frustrated to hear about people questioning his sexuality.
Mendes explained he’s been questioned about being gay since he was fifteen years old, and even though there’s nothing wrong with being gay, it isn’t the case for him. Having to explain his sexuality over & over again is really not okay.
Who they both dated before
Shawn Mendes wasn’t always head-over-heels in love with Camila Cabello. Prior to dating her, he dated Hailey Bieber who is now married to Justin Bieber. Mendes & Bieber attended the Met Gala together in 2018. This was the red carpet event where we got to see Bieber sporting pretty pink-colored hair rather than her usual blonde.
Cabello, on the other hand, dated Austin Mahone, Matthew Hussey, and was rumored to have dated both Nick Jonas and Louis Tomlinson in the past. Everyone has a history! It seems that Mendes & Cabello are cool with everyone that they’ve dated before getting together so it’s no big deal.

Since Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello both work in the music industry releasing hit songs in the pop music genre, it’s not shocking at all that they made some collaborations. In 2015 they released the song “I Know What You Did Last Summer” and in 2020, they released the song “Señorita.” Being able to work together honing in on their greatest life passion is probably an incredible bonding experience for the two.

Camila Cabello & Shawn Mendes would’ve never met if they weren’t both opening acts for Austin Mahone’s tour back in July 2014. They crossed paths for the first time on that tour and realized they really liked each other. By November 2015, their first major song collaboration was released and by March 2017, they were posting themselves singing cover songs on YouTube.
Around July 2019, they started being okay with PDA which means that the paparazzi was able to catch them kissing in public. They’ve been going strong since then and their love story has lasted for plenty of years so far – almost eight years to be exact.
Although nothing’s official yet, there are rumors that Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello are engaged. It looks like we’ll have to wait & see until they make an official announcement – if the rumors are true.
