Nicky Nightmare to release new single “Pretty Little Liar” in January, 2023
Nicky Nightmare, a rock singer and songwriter, is set to release a new single on 6 January, 2023. The artist is excited to be releasing a new song which is a true testament to the grunge rock genre – and the music video even more so.
The musician has already released numerous songs which have been well-received and his music is available on all of the major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music, as well as others.
Everything we know about “Pretty Little Liar” thus far
There is immense excitement amongst Nicky Nightmare’s fans for his latest single, especially after the success of his previous singles.
When we spoke to the singer, he shared some of the inspiration behind the music video: “as we were creating this music video, we took inspiration from a classic rock jam by Nirvana, ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’. The stunning reflections and play of light created by the mopped clear is reminiscent of the music video. Quite by accident there was also a janitor where we were shooting the music video, and inspiration came to me in a flash. I wanted him in the video. This was the best I could think of to show my admiration for Nirvana.”
In the music video for “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” released in 1991, a janitor appears briefly during the opening scene. The janitor is shown pushing a mop and bucket down a hallway, before the camera cuts to the band performing on stage. Even though the janitor does not have a significant role in the video, his presence helps to set the scene and create a sense of chaos and rebellion in the high school setting. The janitor is not mentioned in the lyrics of the song itself, but his presence in the music video creates a distinct mood. This notion of disarray and rebellion created by his presence is not only commonly associated with rock music, but is especially evident in the “Pretty Little Liar” music video.
The music video for “Smells Like Teen Spirit” was shot in a high school gymnasium in Los Angeles and features the band performing the song in front of a frenzied crowd of young people who are moshing, dancing, and singing along. The video has a raw, energetic feel that captures the rebellious spirit of the song and the band. It was a major success and helped to propel Nirvana to international fame. The song became an instant hit and is widely considered one of the greatest and most influential rock songs of all time.
That same excitement is evident in the “Pretty Little Liar” music video, and once again speaks to some of the core feelings that rock music inspires in listeners, and viewers of the music videos.
Why pay tribute to Nirvana?
The music video of “Heart Shaped Box” inspired him to get into music so it’s not surprising that he still feels a connection to the band. However, his music has evolved to reflect his own style.
This tribute to Nirvana may reflect his consistent support of the band, but does not in any way detract from the originality of his song nor his general style. As a grunge rock artist, he tries to put his own spin on the genre, and to make the genre more popular than it’s been in the past couple of years.
“I believe in showing respect for those artists who have had an immense influence not only on my personal life, but also on my music. However, the most important aspect of that respect is not by mimicking them, but rather by building on what they have created so that future musicians can also build on what I have created,” says Nicky.
Nicky Nightmare is looking forward to bringing 90s grunge rock music back to popularity through songs which radiate energy, raw emotion, and heavy guitar sounds. Grunge rock was extremely popular in the 1990s and had a significant influence on the development of modern rock music – an influence which Nicky hopes to extend to the future.
