In 1995, Girl’s Tyme was signed to Grass Roots Entertainment. This led to a contract with Columbia Records the following year. That same year, the group changed their name to Destiny’s Child. The first song the group released under their new name was for the Men in Black soundtrack. Their first album won three Soul Train awards. Their second album featured the song “Say My Name”, which won two Grammys.

Beyoncé made her first venture outside of the group when she recorded a duet with Marc Nelson for The Best Man soundtrack. Destiny’s Child sang “Independent Women Pt. 1” for Charlie’s Angels (2000). The song was number one for eleven straight weeks. Their third album Survivor debuted at number one, and won the group another Grammy for the album’s title track.

Destiny’s Child put out a Christmas album the following year, 8 Days of Christmas. After this, the group members pursued more solo projects. Beyoncé released a song for Austin Powers in Goldmember, which she also had a role in. During the group’s hiatus, Beyoncé recorded her first solo album, Dangerously in Love. The album debuted at number one. The lead single, “Crazy in Love”, was Beyoncé’s first number-one single. “Baby Boy” also reached number one. She performed at the Grammys that year, where she picked up five awards. She toured the album & sang the National Anthem at the SuperBowl the following year.

Destiny’s Child reunited to record their last album, Destiny Fulfilled. They toured the album, during which they announced their final separation.
