Is Olivia Munn happy with boyfriend and baby daddy John Mulaney?
“Good,” “scared,” “nervous,” and “excited”: actress Olivia Munn is feeling the full range of human emotion about expecting a child with her boyfriend, comedian John Mulaney.
In an interview with the Today show this morning, the X-Men: Apocalypse and Magic Mike star opened up about her anxieties surrounding first-time motherhood, including the inundation of baby products to choose from: ““Like, how many blankets does a baby need? Like, truly, I wish somebody could tell me. How many onesies and diapers? What’s the best rocker? […] These keep me up at night. It’s really confusing.”
Her boyfriend, John Mulaney, announced the pregnancy in September on Late Night with Seth Meyers. “Olivia & this baby have helped save me from myself in this early journey out of recovery,” said the Big Mouth actor, 39, who has been candid about his struggles with cocaine & alcohol addiction. Let’s take a closer look at the evolution of Munn’s & Mulaney’s highly publicized relationship, from scandals to parenthood.
How did Olivia Munn meet her boyfriend?
John Mulaney’s relationship with Olivia Munn has been the subject of rumors & speculation since they were spotted on an apparent date in June. In his interview with Seth Meyers, Mulaney revealed that he had started dating Munn in “the spring,” following his split from his wife of seven years, make-up artist Anna Marie Tendler, in May. Munn’s pregnancy was revealed just four months after their relationship was confirmed.
Some insiders have disputed this timeline, which seems just a little too convenient. Mulaney has admitted that he first crossed paths with Munn at Seth Meyers’s wedding in 2013. In 2015, Munn said that she was “obsessed with hanging out and talking to” Mulaney in an interview with HuffPost Live, confirming that they were still in touch.
In December 2020, Munn posted a supportive message on Twitter after Mulaney checked into rehab following fifteen years of sobriety. Sources close to Tendler claimed that he asked Tendler for a divorce in February, not in May, leading to conjectures that he had cheated on Tendler with Munn. “Anna Marie knew he was doing things with other women before he went to rehab in December,” a source revealed to Page Six.
How does Olivia Munn feel about her pregnancy?
Munn, 41, gushed to Entertainment Tonight in October that she is “just excited about meeting whoever it is, and bringing a little person into this world.” But she has also shared some apprehensions about the pressures of conforming to celebrity standards of chic, effortless pregnancy. She’s said that she finds herself comparing herself to other pregnant celebrities, like former Victoria’s Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whitely.
“I don’t have Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s body at all, and that was the first step in feeling like, ‘Oh, if I am not handling maternity well,’” confided the actress in her Today show interview. “[…] if my body is changing like this, that means that I’m failing. That means that I’m already not doing things right.”
Olivia Munn has most recently starred in the film Violet (2021) as a woman who wrestles with a negative voice inside her head. She’s said that she can identify with the role, which had a direct impact on her mental health. “It was really emotionally taxing mostly because I recognized myself in Violet so much,” Munn admitted in an interview with Insider.
