Cine Fern Awards Joslyn Rose Lyons Best Women Filmmaker Award

Cine Fern announces the list of winner films: Butterfly Boxing short film Starring Hill Harper and J. Alphonse Nicholson, directed by Joslyn Rose Lyons, wins the Best Women Filmmaker, and Best Actor awards. Joslyn Rose Lyons’ short film starring Hill Harper, J. Alphonse Nicholson has L.A. Premiered at the 10th Annual Studio City Film Festival Laemmle Theatre, North Hollywood and has picked up numerous awards including Best Director Award at the 7th edition of LA Independent Women Film Awards. Joslyn Rose Lyons is a finalist in the Academy Gold Fellowship for Women from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. 

Award Winning Director Joslyn Rose Lyons has contributed to a diverse range of content in film and television for more than a decade, including work with Lionsgate, STARZ, Warner Bros. Pics., UNINTERRUPTED, OWN, BET Networks, and Showtime. 

Joslyn served as a  Producer on Speaking Truth to Power  (Lionsgate/STARZ), which features Barbara Lee, Ayanna Presley, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Alice Walker, Van Jones, Cory Booker, and Danny Glover, winning Outstanding Documentary at the 2022 NAACP Image Awards. She teamed on the film with #TakeTheLead, STARZ’s commitment to amplifying narratives by, about, and for women.

Joslyn Rose directed and produced the first music matters showcase for the Grammys at CAA. She also produced the BET Awards celebrity basketball game with a star-studded cast including Nick Cannon, Chris Brown, Lil Rel Howery, Angela Yee, and Jemelle Hill. 

Joslyn has directed and produced music videos and music content featuring artists including Common, RZA Wu-Tang Clan, Robert Glasper, Mahershala Ali, E-40, Chad Hugo (N.E.R.D./Neptunes), Talib Kweli, Vince Staples, and more. Joslyn directed a documentary short for Grammy, Emmy and Academy Award Winning artist Common and his Imagine Justice Organization dedicated to empowering communities and fighting injustice that debuted on Mic.com.

Joslyn Won best film at the One National, Many Voices Muslim American Film Competition for her short film Umi’s Heart, starring Academy Award-winning Mahershala Ali. Joslyn’s short film Looking Glass premiered at SUNDANCE London, and picked up numerous awards including Best Short at The American Film Awards, and TopShorts Best Female Director.

Joslyn picked up the Best Director award at the 7th edition of LA Ind. Women Film Awards for her short film starring Hill Harper and J. Alphonse Nicholson.

Joslyn Rose was invited by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to be a Guest Panelist on their Academy Gold Rising Program – committed to amplifying narratives by, about and for women and underrepresented audiences. 

Joslyn is the Director on the SHOWTIME documentary feature based on the life of basketball star Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, entitled Stand. The documentary film features exclusive interviews with several basketball and entertainment stars including Stephen Curry, Steve Kerr, Shaquille O’Neal, Jalen Rose, Mahershala Ali and Ice Cube.

Joslyn is the Producer of Tale of the Tape with Malik Buie and Kim Osario, which takes an unabashed look at the role The Mixtape played during the growth of Hip Hop music from the 1970’s to now with Kendrick Lamar Wiz Khalifa, and Big Sean, DJ Clue, Kid Capri, Mobb Deep, DJ Envy, DJ Drama, J. Cole, Wiz Khalifa, Big Sean, Kendrick Lamar, slated for release in Summer 2023. 

Joslyn Rose is an Academy Gold Fellowship for Women Finalist, from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences/Oscars. She’s a member of the Alliance of Women Directors and is represented by CAA, Creative Artists Agency.
