Anna Silverman: A Symphony of Passion, Strength, and Soul on Stage and Screen
London-based theatre and film actress Anna Silverman has captivated with her emotionally rich portrayals of complex and often tragic heroines.
Theatre came first. She performed in classic plays such as Chekhov’s Three Sisters and Uncle Vanya, and Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina — and it was the stage that shaped her as an actress. In a space where every glance and every silence matters, she learned to listen and to respond.
This ability to stay present, to work with attention in a subtle and precise way, is one of those invisible but essential qualities she has carried with her from theatre into to film.
Discover hidden truths
She recently completed two projects — Bittersweet and Chekhov in London. In every role, she holds herself to a high personal standard: to give her all. Fluent in both English and Russian, Anna moves effortlessly between genres — from historical drama to psychological thriller. For her, preparing for a role is always an exploration. The core of her process lies in discovering what is hidden, unexpected — and weaving it into the unique fabric of each story.
Bittersweet, a short film inspired by Dostoevsky’s The Idiot. Set almost entirely in a theatre dressing room, the film focuses on the internal conflict of a modern actress rehearsing the role of Nastasya Filippovna. The intimacy of the setting – a single space filled with unspoken tension – mirrors that confronting one’s own emotional wounds.
“This wasn’t a part I could hide behind,” Anna reflects.
Uncover what lies beneath
To prepare, she immersed herself in 19th-century letters and writings from women who feared being too emotional, too sensitive, too much. She connected that historical fragility and the expectations that placed on a woman today.
Anna finds creative inspiration in visual art and fashion, which deeply inform her character work. This artistic curiosity enriches her perspective, helping her shape fully realised worlds both internally and visually.
A defining aspect of Anna Silverman’s craft is the blend of discipline and curiosity, precision, and inner freedom. In each role, she reveals a truth that becomes a bridge for the viewer — into the character’s inner world and the depth of the narrative. It is this honesty that makes her work so memorable.
Face the unknown
“It’s about what happens when we turn to confront our own fears.”
