When will BBCAmerica drop ‘Killing Eve’s final season?

One of the most critically-acclaimed television shows of the last few years is coming to a close. The BBCAmerica program Killing Eve’s fourth & final season is set to premiere on February 27th, 2022. The show first hit screens on April 8th, 2018, winning multiple television awards & honors during its run. However, all good things must come to an end.

BBCAmerica’s Killing Eve stars Sandrah Oh & Jodie Comer as Eve Polastri & Villanelle. The titular Eve is a British intelligence investigator who’s assigned the mission of capturing Villanelle, a psychopathic assassin. As the series progresses, the two develop an odd fixation for each other. With such high suspense, it’s no wonder the show’s a hit.

BBCAmerica just dropped a new teaser trailer on Tuesday for the final installment of Killing Eve, with fans chomping at the bit for February to roll around. The preview opens with Eve & Villanelle standing back-to-back on a bridge, seemingly torn by their sticky relationship. The trailer tempted viewers with much more tantalizing content.

Killing Eve nears the end

In addition to the visual hook starting the trailer, viewers are drawn in by the sound design. The teaser features an intense soundtrack that mimics a ticking clock, seeming to suggest that it’s only a matter of time before things fall apart for Eve & Villanelle. The preview also utilizes a quick-cut montage of violence from the past three seasons.

Killing Eve’s final season’s emotions seem to be at a fever-pitch. For example, Carolyn Martens (Fiona Shaw) says offscreen, “Do you ever think what might have happened if we didn’t do what we did?” Carolyn continues, “People like us aren’t made for happy lives or happy endings,” right before the trailer slam-cuts to black.

After that, the teaser shifts to a more optimistic tone as Eve rides toward a bedraggled Villanelle on a mobility scooter, asking, “Want a ride?” However, the preview then resumes its darkness when we see Villanelle riding off by herself on Eve’s scooter. Could it be that Villanelle finally did what the show’s title suggests? We’ll have to wait & see.

BBCAmerica shifts personnel

Laura Neal, one of the minds behind Sex Education, will take over as the head writer & executive producer for Killing Eve’s final season. The show has had a bit of a knack for employing top creative talent. For instance, the first season was chiefly written & executive produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who’s well-regarded for her work on Fleabag.

Killing Eve’s second season proved no difference for exhibiting creative talent behind the camera. Emerald Fennell served as showrunner that season, before she went on to make the film Promising Young Woman. Fennell won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay this year, as well as nominations for Best Picture & Best Director.

Killing Eve season 3 was helmed by another talented creator, Suzanne Heathcote, who worked as a writer on Fear the Walking Dead and a producer for See. It will be interesting to see how the direction shifts for season 4 under Neal, as each showrunner has brought their own signature touch thus far.

Needless to say, the final season of Killing Eve is sure to be one of the most talked-about in recent memory. If you haven’t seen any of Killing Eve, it’s worth a watch. It has an overall score of seventy-nine on Metacritic with generally favorable reviews. Now’s the perfect time to hop on the bandwagon & binge it all before the show ends.
