You enjoy a history podcast so it’s safe to call you a history buff. Perhaps, as a schoolchild, you were one of the few in your class who enjoyed the history lessons. You never found them pointless, wondering when you’re ever going to have to know the facts of World War II. The subject just excited us and it’s easy to see why.
Studying history gives birth to a greater understanding of the world in which we live. Gathering knowledge & comprehension of historical events & patterns, especially over centuries, gives us greater appreciation for our lives today. When we apply that knowledge, we observe what worked and what didn’t work in the past and stop ourselves from repeating the dark side.
And of course, it’s also a fantastic form of entertainment! Watching the past makes some of the greatest movies and shows. Even if you just want to listen, that’s certainly an option in our age. Hardcore History is among several other podcasts of the genre but it stands out from the rest.

“King of Kings 2”
Hailing from Biblical-era takeover to the dreadful aftermath of ancient warfare, the “King of Kings 2” is the second installment from the series on the Kings of Achaemenid Persia. Dan took it to somewhere only he could.
We learned that in the fifth century of the BC era, Persia’s armies conducted sea landings in Greece, they began what was at the time, the largest, most trailblazing military conflict in European history. Both sides were about the first adversaries to battle in an ongoing milenia-long competition between the East and the West.

Even the most polished and intricate weaponry from the BC era is nothing compared to what we have today. This isn’t a political article so we won’t dive too deeply into it, but what happens when too much funding goes into war? Is it possible that we humans are too smart for our own good? Perhaps, we don’t have enough wisdom. We mean, could our very technology be what leads to our ultimate downfall?
In “The Destroyer of Worlds”, Dan asks us, “What happens if human beings can’t handle the power of their own weaponry?” This show dissected the threatening early years of the nuclear age. Through these moments, we thought about humanity’s own efforts to evade destroying ourselves.
“The Celtic Holocaust”
What leads to the desire for the mass extermination of human beings is a crucial topic in politics. It’s captivating but scary to think what people can be capable of. It can be like listening to true crime stories.
“The Celtic Holocaust” from the Hardcore History podcast re-introduces us to Julius Caesar. This was when Caesar led us through his murderous subjugation of the native Celtic tribal peoples from ancient Gaul.
“A Fly on James Burke’s Wall”
We’ll always remember some of the greatest storytellers of all time. Inspirations give rise to your own art. There are countless people we could call great storytellers, but there was a time when Hardcore History put the spotlight on one man in particular ― James Burke.
Dan talked about history with infamous science historian, author, television host and producer James Burke. The Washington Post referred to Burke as “one of the most intriguing minds in the Western world”.
