The Summer movie season is finally upon us, and now that movie theaters are slowly beginning to reopen across the country we can finally take part in one of America’s favorite traditions, and that’s sitting down with a 60 oz soda pop and a bucket of popcorn as we mindlessly watch some exciting Summer movies. So, are there movies coming out in the summer of 2021 that you should put on your radar? A few, actually.
With A Quiet Place Part II opening this weekend, we thought it would be prudent to remind you guys of just some of the Summer movies that are coming out in 2021. Whether you plan to check these movies out in the theater or via streaming options, we think that these are the top exciting Summer movies that will surely get audiences back into the movie-going spirit. F*&% you, COVID-19 . . . movies win!
Here are some of the more exciting Summer movies that are finally coming out in 2021.
F9 (June 25th)
It’s an exciting time for fans of The Fast and Furious franchise, as they won’t have to wait much longer for the series’ 9th installment, set to feature Dominic Toretto and the rest of the gang as they defy the laws of physics once more, this time going toe-to-toe with Toretto’s brother, played by WWE Superstar John Cena.
F9 will feature series’ regulars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese, Ludacris, Jordana Brewster, and Charlize Theron. F9 will, however, be without the services of Dwayne Johnson, taking a break from the franchise after earning the studio millions of dollars thanks to Hobbs and Shaw, the first spin-off film from The Fast and Furious franchise which starred himself and Jason Statham.
Regardless of the film’s early disappointing critic ratings, we’re still excited to strap in for another exciting ride with Toretto and the gang as we sit shotgun with some of our favorite Fast characters.
Black Widow (July 9th)
Thanks to Disney+ shows such as WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and the upcoming Loki, we have been able to subdue our appetite for the MCU. That being noted, we haven’t seen an MCU feature film since July 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, and we are ready after what feels like years of promotional work to finally check out Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow.
Black Widow, which was originally set for an April 2020 release but was pushed back thanks to the global pandemic, stars Scarlett Johansson as the titular character, one that she has played since 2010’s Iron Man 2. The film will also feature Rachel Weisz, David Harbour, and Florence Pugh.
Space Jam: A New Legacy (July 16th)
Everybody get up, it’s time to slam now! After years and years of anticipation, fans are finally getting the long-awaited sequel to Michael Jordan’s 1990s nostalgic masterpiece, Space Jam. The sequel is set to star Los Angeles Laker and basketball icon LeBron James, taking on a computer program and its elite team of superstars in order to return home with his son from the cyber world in which they are trapped in.
The catch? LeBron James will have to team up with the beloved Looney Tunes in order to escape this world safely, including the likes of Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, and Lola Bunny, said to be voiced by Zendaya. Will this movie suck? Most likely. However, so long as the film has fun with itself and features an amazing soundtrack then we think most audiences will be forgiving.
Jungle Cruise (July 30th)
Based on the attraction set in the heart of Disneyland’s Adventureland, Jungle Cruise will return audiences back into the adventure genre, a seemingly lost genre of filmmaking that we really haven’t seen since Alicia Vikander’s Tomb Raider.
The film stars Emily Blunt, who plays a doctor & explorer who is dead set on finding a mythical tree which has the power to heal. In order to find this mcguffin, she must enlist the help of a wisecracking skipper played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who must aid her down the treacherous Amazon in order for the pair to find their long-lost treasure.
The Suicide Squad (August 6th)
Possibly looking to capitalize off the success of Zack Snyder’s Justice League on HBO Max, The Suicide Squad, helmed by Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, will hopefully take the DCEU in a lighter and more exciting direction. After all, 2017’s Suicide Squad fell somewhat flat with most audiences, given its scatterbrained plot and weak development of characters.
The sequel is set to once again star Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, who will also be aided by the talents of Pete Davidson, John Cena, Idris Elba, Sylvester Stallone, Nathan Fillion, And Michael Rooker.
