Is ‘Vanderpump Rules’ getting canned? What the cast has to say
Racist behavior isn’t new, especially from reality TV stars. Instead of combating this behavior, executives & producers have been known to do absolutely nothing. They are the ones who cast these scandalous & shocking TV personalities in the first place, and let’s just face it: crazy behavior & racist comments translate to more media attention for the show.
Attempting to call out these celebrities for racism only leads to tearful apologies designed to win the hearts of the public. However, our current fight over racism & police brutality has sparked protests across the world making networks realize they can no longer get away with racism – there must be consequences.
A price to pay
In a podcast released in 2018, Bravo’s Vanderpump Rules star Stassi Schroeder told a story how she & costar Kristen Doute called the police on their former cast member Faith Stowers. They believed Stowers may have been an alleged robber based on a photo attached to an article on Daily Mail.
As you probably already guessed, the woman in the photo was not Faith Stowers, in fact, the only thing they had in common is they were both Black. Yikes! Although the situation didn’t seem like a huge deal to the two TV stars, the network didn’t like their actions and fired them a week after the podcast incident.
Combating racism
Bravo tackled racism as they also fired Vanderpump cast members Max Biyens & Brett Caprioni for their racist tweets. Although the two cast members have apologized to the public, Bravo didn’t want to be associated with them any longer.
Cast members and stars of Vanderpump Rules got the boot off the show leaving fans to wonder, “Will the show be booted off the network altogether?” Cast member Katie Maloney gives us insight leaving us to believe Vanderpump Rules might not be returning for a ninth season.
The end of an era?
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Katie stated, “I have no idea” after being asked if the show was returning. “Every day, I’m being like, ‘Maybe today we’ll get the phone call!’ I’m hopeful. They haven’t canceled it, so there’s hope still. At least there’s not, like, anything definitive in that regard.”
Although hopeful for the future of Vanderpump Rules, Katie stated that even if the show were to return as it would be weird without Stassi Schroeder & Kristen Doute. According to Katie, season 8 felt like the finale as she stated, “normally our seasons always end on a happy note. It all works out and it’s like this full circle kind of thing, and this time it was, ‘Oh, sh*t.’”
If Vanderpump Rules returns it will definitely be different with the absence of the cast members whom Katie revealed were reflecting on their past racist behavior. Katie hopes for a possible ninth season that will shed light on racial injustice & police brutality. “It’s our responsibility to do the things that we can do to make change, ultimately,” Katie concluded.
Will season 9 of Vanderpump Rules return? That remains a mystery for us all. For now, the fact that racism is being dealt with is something we can all be happy about.
