Seasoned pilot and journalist Kate Broug is preparing for a new journey that is more than just another flight. She has just launched First Flights with Kate Broug, a new digital series exploring the profound impact of aviation on daily life.

The series, which will debut on September 20th, serves up an intoxicating blend of history, technology, and personal narratives. “Aviation is more than just getting from point A to point B,” according to Kate Broug. “It’s about the stories that connect us, the breakthroughs that define us, and the future that awaits us in the skies.”

Charting New Courses in Aviation Journalism

Aviation content often feels very distant and technical, leaving many disconnected from the undoubted marvels of flight. First Flights with Kate Broug seeks to change all that by bringing together aviation’s past, present, and future into a story touching a broad audience. The series addresses with depth and accessibility many of today’s hottest themes, such as sustainable aviation and a new generation’s renewed interest in exploring space, the final frontier.

“This series is about capturing that intersection and making it relatable to people from all walks of life,” Kate Broug says. Episodes of the series cover a number of wide-ranging avenues, from the feats of daring World War II airmen to futuristic possibilities of electric aircraft.

Kate’s first episode, The Missing Airmen of WWII, takes a deep dive into a new aviation initiative from Kate’s own home country of The Netherlands. The Dutch National Program is currently locating and excavating some of the more than 5000 World War II aircraft that crashed in the Netherlands but have yet to be recovered. Focused on the approximately 50 aircraft that still may have human remains inside, Kate’s profile provides a unique window into an important chapter of today’s unresolved history.

Partnering with Kate’s colleagues at the Dutch Study Group Air War and Dutch Major General Ivo de Jong, The Netherland’s official representative to NATO’s Military Committee, The Missing Airmen of World War II brings into vivid life those who gave their own last full measure of devotion to protect the very freedoms we today enjoy.

Kate’s industry partnerships, including collaboration with organizations such as the Rainforest Foundation, also help the series influence groups both within and beyond the aviation community.

A Pilot at the Helm

The show’s core is clearly Kate Broug herself – highlighting Kate’s deep background as a jounalist, a pilot and an entrepreneur. Kate’s passion for aviation evidently began early, but her journalistic curiosity has since led her to explore uncovered stories often overlooked in the industry. “Aviation is full of untapped narratives,” she says. “Whether it’s the spirit of our early aviators or the technological leaps we’re seeing today – there’s always something new to discover.”

Kate’s previous projects, The Pivotal Moment  and Anna in Bhutan, highlight Kate’s unique talent for blending historical research with modern storytelling. Under Kate’s wing, First Flights goes beyond the usual boundaries, making aviation more relevant to a new generation of diverse audiences.

“My goal is to make aviation accessible,” Kate Broug says. “I want to break down the barriers that make it seem distant or unapproachable – to show people that it’s a part of our everyday lives in ways they might not otherwise expect.”

Launching the series on YouTube was a strategic decision on Kate’s part aimed at reaching the broadest possible audience, particularly younger viewers who have yet to engage with traditional aviation media.

A Flight Plan for the Future

First Flights with Kate Broug is poised for a successful debut that should attract a substantial viewership, fueling future episodes. “The response to our trailers has been incredibly encouraging,” Kate Broug shares. “There’s a hunger out there for this content, and we’re ready to help meet it.”

After her initial release of First Flights, Kate Broug looks to expand the show’s reach through partnerships with additional leading aviation companies, educational institutions, and environmental organizations. Kate hopes the show will evolve into a broader educational and advocacy platform, inspiring future generations to engage with aviation in new and meaningful ways. “We have an opportunity to shape how people think about aviation—not just as a mode of transportation but as a force for good in the world,” she says.

Ready for Takeoff

In this author’s opinion, First Flights with Kate Broug represents a bold new direction in aviation journalism. The show blends technical insights with personal stories and historical context. Kate Broug’s own charismatic leadership also promises to elevate viewers’ perspectives on the skies above.

First Flights stands out because of its personal touch and narrative depth in an industry frequently driven by technicality. Kate’s ideas and direction propel First Flights to higher rankings and prominence. “Aviation is about more than just flying,” Kate says. “It’s about the connections we make, the stories we share, and the futures we build together.”
