Filming for TharnType 2: 7 Years of Love is officially underway. While the creators are keeping things under wraps, here is what we know so far.

Meet the new cast members of ‘TharnType 2: 7 Years of Love’

TharnType: The Series is a BL drama produced in Thailand. Set in Bangkok, the show centers around two college freshmen who are coincidentally thrown into the same dorm room.

The two boys couldn’t be more different. Type (Gulf Kanawut Traipipattanapong) is a sports major who comes from a smaller coastal town. Tharn (Mew Suppasit Jongcheveevat) comes from a wealthy Bangkok family and is a music major. Type is incredibly homophobic, so when he learns that Tharn is gay, chaos naturally ensues.

TharnType: The Series aired in 2019 and was wildly popular in both Thailand and around the world. While second seasons of BL productions isn’t typically common, it does happen occasionally. When the producers of the show announced that TharnType: The Series had secured funding for a second season, fans lost their minds.

What we know

Filming for TharnType 2: 7 Years of Love is officially underway. While the creators of the show are doing a stellar job of keeping information about the show and on set shenanigans under lock & key, there are a few things we can tell you.

Firstly, the author of the source material announced that she is making changes to the script for the show. The book was criticized for being problematic due to the depiction of some of the relationship issues that evolve between Tharn & Type. While specific details of what exactly is being changed are unclear at this point, it seems that the author heard the fandom’s cries about this issue and is addressing it head on. This is positive!

We can also tell you that the second season is set seven years after both Tharn & Type graduate from university. Both Tharn & Type are working professionals and the storyline takes on a much more adult vibe. This is exciting, as most of the BL productions that emerge from Thailand focus on adolescent or very young adult aged characters.

'Tharntype 2: 7 Years of Love' is coming eventually, but we're impatient. So exactly how much longer until MewGulf returns to our TV screens?

It is rumored that Tharn & Type’s relationship will face several tribulations as a third party tries to intervene. Details about the complexities of this aren’t really known. All we can tell you is that an antagonist has been cast, so watch this space.

However, also just a rumor at this point, there has been some suggestion that the end of the series will feature a wedding between the two male leads. While not necessarily significant for Western audiences anymore, for Thailand, this is a huge deal. The fans are collectively holding their breath, waiting to see if this will come to fruition.

Important casting announcements

There have actually been many casting announcements for TharnType 2: 7 Years of Love in recent weeks. It seems many new characters are joining the show, however only a small handful of them will be taking on more prominent roles. Furthermore, the majority of the actors are newbies, and their role on this show is their first acting gig. This means there is very little information available about them. Here is what we know.

First Chalongrat Novsamrong – Fiat

It is believed that the role of Fiat (First Chalongrat Novsamrong) is the character that will serve as the antagonist to Tharn & Type’s relationship. In the novel, which has not been translated to English as yet, Fiat develops feelings for Type. When Fiat attempts to act on said feelings, this is when the conflict occurs between Tharn & Type.

As the author of the book has announced that she is making changes to the screenplay, it is not yet known if this storyline will play out this way. At this stage, the only thing that is for sure is that Fiat is the antagonist.

First Chalongrat Novsamrong is one of the few new cast members that has worked in the industry before. He had a small appearance on another Thai BL, 2Gether, and he starred in another project called Social Death Vote

Ja Phachara Suansri – Leo

Very little is known about Leo’s (Ja Phachara Suansri) role in the storyline. From the promotional photos released on the show’s official twitter account, it seems that Leo is somehow connected to Fiat. However, the nature of this connection is unclear. Fans are speculating that Leo may be Fiat’s boyfriend. If this assumption proves to be true, the storyline that plays out between Type & Fiat should be interesting indeed.

TharnType 2: 7 Years of Love is also not Ja Phachara Suansri’s first acting role. He played supporting roles in both Until We Meet Again and Beauty Boy: The Series.

Jame Jirayu – Dr Khunpol

The only thing that is known about Dr Khunpol’s (Jame Jirayu) role in TharnType 2: 7 Years of Love is that he plays Champ’s (Boat Napat Srinakluan) boyfriend. Nothing else about the importance of the role, or the frequency that he will appear has leaked as yet. We are including him here as someone noteworthy because of the fandom’s love for Champ.

It is worth addressing that at the conclusion of TharnType: The Series, many fans shipped Champ & Techno (Mild Suttinut Uengtrakul) together. People were hoping that the author would hear their cries and write them into a relationship with each other in the second season. With the introduction of Dr Khunpol’s character, this clearly won’t happen.

Many other casting announcements were made, though information about their importance to the storyline remains to be seen. As more information leaks from the film set about season 2, and the actors joining the squad, we promise to update you as quickly as we can!

  • Thank you, Nikki, for always giving us updates on TharnType! The fight for 2d season was hard and unlikely to win, but we got it! Still feels unreal.
Pretty excited for the new cast. We have many newbies this time, so it’s interesting to see their capabilities.
But I’m afraid you (or admin) used the wrong photo of Jame Jirayu. Please check his Twitter or IG account (it’s ‘jame_pphat’).
