Diamonds Are Forever

Run Lola Run

It isn’t just Hollywood that adores a roulette scene! This title, which is both thriller and a romance, is an absolute masterpiece of german cinema. Released in 1998 it follows the title character Lola, played by Franka Potente, as she dashes around Berlin attempting to pay off her boyfriend’s debts and ultimately save his life. 

This tale of luck, probability, and realism sees Lola head straight to the casino and place her boyfriend’s fate in the hands of the roulette table. Using her only 100 mark chip to place a bet on the number 22 the tension is palpable as we wait to see what the outcome of the spin, and the fate of her boyfriend, will be.

Indecent Proposal 

Although it’s a magnificent game, the buzz and excitement of roulette can land you in a world of trouble should you get carried away. No movie depicts this better than the 1993 movie Indecent Proposal. Demi Moore and Woody Harrelson play a newlywed couple that goes to a Las Vegas casino and incautiously place their life savings on red in a game of roulette. 

The couple loses the game, along with their savings, however, they think their luck has changed when an elusive billionaire, played by Robert Redford, offers the couple 1 Million dollars to sleep with the man’s wife, they take him up on his proposal however this leads to the couple’s relationship being tested in dramatic and memorable ways.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels 

Set In the French Rivera this 1988 movie follows two con men (played by Micheal Caine and Steve Martin) as they win hundreds of thousands of dollars playing at casinos. One of the most memorable scenes is of course set at a swanky casino and the men take each other on playing roulette and trying to impress ladies. This storyline was such a success it was later turned into a popular musical!
